How to Tweet With Your Location

If you are not sure what tweeting with your location is, please visit our FAQs about Tweet Location help page for more information.

How to enable tweeting with your location:

Because tweeting with your location is disabled by default for everyone, you must enable this feature by following these steps:

  1. Click on the gear icon in the upper right hand corner of your screen and select Settings from the drop down menu.
  2. Go to your Account settings.
  3. At the bottom of the page, check the box next to Add a location to your Tweets.
  4. You will be prompted to enter your password, click Save to confirm the change.

How to choose your location:

After you've enabled Tweet location in your settings, you'll see a location field below the "What's happening?" box on your homepage.

  1. Click the location icon to see the drop down menu from which you can select your location.
  2. Your selected location will show up with a green check mark.
  3. Click any location listed, or you can Search for a neighborhood or city by using the search field the top of the menu.
  4. If you no longer want include location on your Tweets, simply click the x next to Turn off location. This turns location off on a per-Tweet basis.
Note: you may be asked by Firefox or Safari "Remember Your Location" or to "Share Location". Click "Yes" if asked.

How to remove location data:

If you have already enabled tweeting with your location, you can disable it the same way you enabled it:

  1. Click on the gear icon in the upper right hand corner of your screen and select Settings from the drop down menu.
  2. Go to your Account settings.
  3. At the bottom of the page, uncheck the box next to Add a location to your Tweets.
  4. You will be prompted to enter your password, click Save to confirm the change.

Making this change only alters your settings going forward. To remove your location data from all of your previous Tweets, you’ll need to delete all location information. Here's how:

  1. Delete the Tweet with the location data attached.
  2. Remove all location data from all of your Tweets by clicking on Delete all location information in your Account settings. This can take up to 30 minutes, but it will scrub all location information from prior Tweets.

IMPORTANT SECURITY NOTE: It is important to note that deleting location information in your settings does not guarantee the information will be removed from all copies of the data on third-party applications or in external search results.
