Variations on the term "swagger" get thrown around by young folks with reckless abandon these days.  Perhaps the finest of example of true I-don't-give-a-damn-what-you-think swagger in our pop-cultural landscape is, however, an eighty-two year old man.  In a business notoriously obsessed with youth, Clint Eastwood is an actor who has accepted his age and made himself that much more of an icon in the process.

Eastwood's latest film, Trouble With the Curve, debuts in theaters nationwide tomorrow, September 21st, and is very much concerned with aging.  Eastwood stars as Gus, a wizened talent scout for the Atlanta Braves.  Gus has always been the best at finding baseball stars in the making, but his eyesight is failing him almost completely.  With a hugely important scouting trip looming, Guss seeks out his semi-estranged daughter Mickey, played by Amy Adams, to act as his eyes on the road.

At the recent Los Angeles press day promoting Trouble With the Curve, the film's stars Clint EastwoodAmy Adams, and Justin Timberlake were in attendance to discuss making the movie, sharing their thoughts on working together, throwing baseballs, leading by example, their characters, and getting older.

Making its West Coast premier at the Pantages Theater in Los Angeles, California in a strictly limited 12-week engagement from September 5th - November 25th is the Tony Award winning musical The Book of Mormon from four-time Emmy Award-winning South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker

The Book of Mormon features book, music and lyrics by Parker, Stone and Robert Lopez, the co-creator of the long-running musical Avenue Q. The musical is choreographed by Tony Award-winning Cassie Nicolaw (Monty Python's Spamalot) and was directed by Nicholaw and Parker.  The musical was in development for almost seven years and opened on Broadway in March of last year. It went on to win nine Tony Awards including Best Musical, as well as a winning a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.

The Book of Mormon tells the story of two young Mormon missionaries sent to a remote village in northern Uganda, where a brutal warlord (General Butt Naked) is threatening the local population. Slightly naive and extremely optimistic, the two missionaries try to share their holy book but have trouble connecting with the locals, who are more worried about war, famine, poverty, and AIDS than about religion.

Last weekend I had the pleasure of attending a performance of the brilliant musical while the show was still in previews. I have to say that if you are in the Los Angeles area during the run of the show and did not get a chance to see it on Broadway, do yourself a favor and buy a ticket. It's become a cultural event that you will not want to miss, especially if you are a fan of South Park and its creators unusual sense of humor. But be warned: this is not Oklahoma! While it is completely clever and hilarious it is also extremely filthy and might not be the musical you want to bring your mother to as a guest.
