One Last Extended Trailer for 'The Master'

Friday, 28 September 2012 08:04

The Master, Paul Thomas Anderson's first film since There Will Be Blood in 2007, has now expanded to just under 800 theaters nationwide, and will hopefully continue rolling out across this nation of ours.  It's a movie that has dropped an unusual but totally welcome number of trailers, and Anderson has kept it up with one last hypnotic, magnificent trailer.

Fire up the Speculate-O-tron, ladies and gentleman, because there's a big speculative leap concerning Man of Steel to be addressed.

Basically, the Superman reboot might have a villain that we weren't aware of hidden up its sleeve.

Variations on the term "swagger" get thrown around by young folks with reckless abandon these days.  Perhaps the finest of example of true I-don't-give-a-damn-what-you-think swagger in our pop-cultural landscape is, however, an eighty-two year old man.  In a business notoriously obsessed with youth, Clint Eastwood is an actor who has accepted his age and made himself that much more of an icon in the process.

Eastwood's latest film, Trouble With the Curve, debuts in theaters nationwide tomorrow, September 21st, and is very much concerned with aging.  Eastwood stars as Gus, a wizened talent scout for the Atlanta Braves.  Gus has always been the best at finding baseball stars in the making, but his eyesight is failing him almost completely.  With a hugely important scouting trip looming, Guss seeks out his semi-estranged daughter Mickey, played by Amy Adams, to act as his eyes on the road.

At the recent Los Angeles press day promoting Trouble With the Curve, the film's stars Clint EastwoodAmy Adams, and Justin Timberlake were in attendance to discuss making the movie, sharing their thoughts on working together, throwing baseballs, leading by example, their characters, and getting older.

Three time Oscar nominee Amy Adams is currently busy promoting The Master, Paul Thomas Anderson's new film in limited release this weekend.  That means she's been asked a lot of questions about playing Lois Lane in Man of Steel, next year's cinematic Superman reboot.  In a pair of new interviews, Adams discusses joining esteemed group of actresses who've played Lane over the years and why director Zack Snyder didn't ask her to dye her hair.

Trouble With the Curve

Friday, 14 September 2012 14:30

Synopsis: Gus Lobel has been one of the best scouts in baseball for decades, but, despite his efforts to hide it, age is starting to catch up with him. Nevertheless, Gus—who can tell a pitch just by the crack of the bat—refuses to be benched for what could be the final innings of his career. He may not have a choice. The front office of the Atlanta Braves is starting to question his judgment, especially with the country’s hottest batting phenom on deck for the draft. The one person who might be able to help is also the one person Gus would never ask: his daughter, Mickey, an associate at a high-powered Atlanta law firm whose drive and ambition has put her on the fast track to becoming partner.

You'd think Jonny Greenwood would be content as the lead guitarist and keyboardist of Radiohead, one of the most influential and admired musical acts of the last two decades.  Just to prove his coolness, though, Greenwood now composes the score for some really cool films, including those of Paul Thomas Anderson.  His simultaneously haunting, gorgeous, and unnerving The Master score is now available for a listen online.

Just because we've now seen the last trailer for The Master doesn't mean that we can't look forward to plenty of goodies from Paul Thomas Anderson's new joint between now and when it begins rolling out in limited release on September 14th.  Nope, certainly doesn't.  And to prove it, we have a short but substantial new clip from the film, showing off a different energy and showcasing a character who hasn't been quite so prominent in the promotion so far.

With less than a month before The Master arrives in theaters, a new and final trailer for the sixth feature film by writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson is popping up all over online.  Like its many predecessors, it's exquisitely put together and is a little bit unnerving.

Last week, Paul Thomas Anderson screened his new movie The Master in jumbo-sized 70mm at Chicago's Music Box Theatre, and that screening was accompanied by a dreamlike teaser trailer/clip.  With another bigass exhibition of the film set to go down at San Francisco's Castro Theater tonight (benefiting the Film Foundation), we're treated to yet another announcement teaser-thing promoting the film.
