American Osteopathic College of Radiology

 Education Foundation

Over 25 years ago the AOCR had a dream - an Education Foundation. That dream has become a reality. Through the Foundation, numerous projects are sponsored which enhance public awareness of health care issues, support continuing medical education for practicing radiologists and provide additional educational resources for radiology residents.

Current Activities

Distance Learning Lecture Series

Grandview Hospital & Medical Center
Oakwood Southshore Medical Center
St. Barnabas Hospital

In 2002, the Foundation began sponsoring a Distance Learning Lecture Series to augment the osteopathic residency training curriculum. Approximately 120 osteopathic residents, students and attendings from AOA and ACGME programs participate in each lecture. The series offers six lectures per year and has been very well received. The distance learning lectures provide enteraction between the residents, attendings and the speaker following the online presentation.  This year the lectures have included:

Philip D. Orons, DO Angiography in Trauma: Mechanism of Injury and Arteriographic Findings
Steve Min, DO Fundamentals of PET Imaging
Kevin Carter, DO Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Anterior Knee Pain
Steve Min, DO Breast MRI
Les Folio, DO High Resolution CT
Claire McKay, DO Basics of Mammography

Botsford Osteopathic Radiology Oral Board Review Course

The Botsford Osteopathic Radiology Oral Board Review Course is offered annually to 3rd and 4th year residents. The grant awarded by the Foundation is used to reduce the cost for DO residents and help provide for other expenses.
The course presented through interactive presentations. The program provides 10 interactive lectures and “hot seat” sessions for five of the 10 board examination sections led by fellowship trained board certified radiologists. The course also adds individualized attention and sample plans to help residents efficiently organize their board review study.

For more information visit the Botsford website.

Oral Board Review at AOCR Annual Convention

An Oral Board Review is presented for the residents who attend the Annual Convention. The review is an opportunity for residents to be put in the "hot seat" and given instructions on how to approach cases during their oral board examination.

COBE Project

The Foundation continues to support the development and implementation of case-based computerized oral board examinations.  This includes certification, recertification and CAQ exams.

Participating in Conferences and Conventions

Featured lectures at the AOCR Annual Convention and Mid Year Conference are sponsored each year by the Foundation. A luncheon during the AOCR Annual Convention for Past Presidents and Foundation sponsors for the purpose of facilitating communication on College and Foundation activities and projects.

Educational Videos

Educational videos have been sponsored by the Foundation, stressing the advantages of routine mammography and the importance of early detection of colorectal cancer. These tapes, "A Gift of Life" and "Coping with Colorectal Cancer and the Importance of Early Detection," include testimonials from numerous cancer survivors. These videos have been shown during countless public awareness presentations and conventions, as well as appearing on the Public Broadcast System. Copies of the educational videos may be ordered from the American Osteopathic College of Radiology Education Foundation.
