Membership FAQ:

Q: I already had a Citytv account. Why do I have to sign up again?
A: When we moved our websites to their new home, we were unable to bring along all the membership information due to the way our old data system was built. As a result, we are asking that you recreate your accounts with our new system. We know that this is extra work on your part, but we believe that the new features of our site will be more than worth the change.

Q. Why do I need to fill out a profile?
A: Becoming a member allows you access to all the great tools and information on our various sites. Completing a member profile will enable you to receive newsletters, participate in online conversations via our new commenting system, post your community events and much much more, without ever having to enter further personal data.

Q: The system says I am already registered but this is the first time I have been here... what is going on?
A: Our new membership system is shared with other Rogers Communications properties, like Chatelain magazine and Rogers Sportsnet. If you have previously created an account with one of these organizations, you can simply log in to our membership page using the same account credentials.

Q. Will my profile information remain private?
A: Absolutely. We have built a secure system to protect your profile information. Your profile information is only used for the purposes stated at the time of collection. We will not send you anything you haven't personally requested. In addition, we do our best to make sure you are aware of the implications of each action you take. You should also know that unless you have checked-off a box on the entry form that gives us specific permission to share your information with the Contest Sponsor, your information will remain private and is only used to run the contest. For more information on privacy please review our Privacy Statement.

Q. I have a new email address, can  I change it on my account?
A: You can change your email address easily by logging into your account making the necessary changes to your profile and clicking the Update Profile button to submit the changes to our system.

Q. I don't remember my password and/or username. Can you send them to me?
A: Your username is always the email address you signed up with originally. This will not change as long as you have your account with Citytv. As there are two different Membership tools on our site, you will first have to determine which one you are attempting to retrieve the password for.

If you are trying to retrieve the password for your Newsletter Subscriptions account, follow this link and click on the "Forgot Your Password?" link on the right side of the page. This will start the password retrieval process.

If you are trying to retrieve the password for your Commenting account (ie: the account you use to comment on stories, shows and episodes) click on the Login/Register link at the top of this page and enter your email address in the "Reset your password" field. An email will be sent to your account detailing the next steps.

If you are unsure which account type you have, complete both processes just to be on the safe side. If you continue to have problems, there is an troubleshooting email address available in both processes that you can use to contact a Citytv representative directly for assistance.

Comments FAQ:

Q: Why do I have to login to comment?
A: All comments submitted via our website are moderated by Citytv Staff prior to being approved for display on the site. We do this to ensure that objectionable content, spam messages etc. are not posted to the site, making your reading and commenting experience that much more enjoyable.

Q: I want to comment, but don't have an account and can't find the registration page. Help!
A: Yes, we know that the comment login / registration is a little hard to find. Sorry. At the very top right of this page, you will see a Login/Register link. Click this link to go directly to the Membership page and start the registration process.

Q: I commented but I can't see it online. How long does it take for my comment to show up?
A: We do our best to read and moderate all comments in as short a period of time as possible. However, if you are posting your comments outside of regular business hours, please be aware that we will not get to approving them until the next business day. Thank you for being patient.

Community Calendar / Liveable City:

Q: Why does my account not work when I try to post an event to the online Community Calendar?
A: The Community Calendar and Liveable City tools use a completely different membership system than our regular site Membership tools. In order to use either of these features, you will have to create a second account. We are working on correcting this issue and will advise all registrants if this situation is to change. All Rogers/Citytv Privacy and Terms of Service conditions apply to these accounts as well Thank you for your understanding.

Contests FAQ:

Q: Why do I have to enter my personal information every time I want to enter a contest? Can't you just take that information from my Membership account?
A: Our contesting tools are still using parts of our old contesting system but we will be updating them soon to integrate your new Citytv Membership information. Stay tuned for more...

Q. I live in Quebec, why can't I enter a Citytv contest in Ontario?
A. When a contest is run in Quebec, it has to go through a separate body called the "Regis des Jeux et des Lotteries" before ANYTHING can be given away. This board is set up by the Quebec provincial government and imposes a tax on prize value. Anyone who runs a contest in Quebec has to give the Regis des Jeux et des Lotteries 10% of the prize value. Not only is this tax commission expensive, but also involves weeks of applications, justifications, and reports. Often, our sponsors can't wait 4-6 weeks to get approval from this body. So even though we would love to include contestants from Quebec, these restrictions present too many challenges.

Q. I do not live in Canada, what can I sign up for?
A. Welcome to all our international members! Unfortunately, you are not eligible for any of our contests, as they are only open to Canadian residents. But wait! You can still sign up for a Membership to receive our newsletters or to post comments to the site. Click here to sign up today.
