The agreement consists of a joint declaration of intent signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Antonio Patriota, and Secretary of the U.S. National Security, Janet Napolitano, who today began a visit to Brazil that will end tomorrow in Sao Paulo.

The document, released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the agreement aims to'' reaffirm the growing quality of the relationship and the broad agenda for cooperation between Brazil and the United States, in the context of a society balanced and constructive, based on mutual respect and values and principles.''

In order to establish how it will come to the complete elimination of visas between the two countries, Patriot and Janet defined in an agreement creating a technical working group which will meet for the first time before November.

'' The group will be constituted as a platform to propose measures and procedures'', which should be adapted to the corresponding laws on visas, says the document.

Before meeting with Patriot, in which the agreement was signed, the U.S. representative met with the finance minister, Guido Mantega, who discussed some initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperation in the protection of intellectual property rights, among other issues .

After the visit to Brasilia, Janet went to the city of São Paulo, where he is scheduled to meet tomorrow with members of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Brazil.

According to diplomatic sources reported Efe, the meeting will be considered alternatives to expand and promote trade and tourism between both countries.
