  1. A sneak preview of the 2013 membership card!
The image is titled 'Christina by the boat' and was taken by Lt. Col. Mervyn O'Gorman in 1913, which means it will be 100 years old next year. The image is part of The Society's Collection and we felt it was an appropriate choice for the year in which the RPS will celebrate its 160th Birthday! What do you think?

    • Just got home after a day out to Bovey Tracy for the RPS advisory day. Thank you so much to the amazing and very wonderful Paul Foley FRPS, Anne Sutcliffe FRPS and Joe Cornish FRPS for fantastic, honest, thorough and constructive criticism. And to the very welcoming host team and fantastic organisers. I sincerely hope that every one managed to aquaplane or row home safely!! What a night. My sincere sympathy goes out to those poor home and business owners across the country who are suffering from flooding. Let's hope the rain eases and things dry out very soon.

  10. Sad news that Bryce Bayer, the Eastman Kodak scientist who invented the Bayer filter which was patented in 1976, has died aged 83. The filter is still used in nearly every digital camera, video camera and camera phone on the market today. Bayer received The Society's Progress medal in 2009.

  25. City Perspective Project
Based on the talks from Tom Hunter and Ian Beesley at the RPS Photography in the City Lectures the RPS has been working with Boomsatsuma to help inspire young people to photograph their city.

    5 schools and over 450...
pupils took part in the project all contributing different view points of how they view their city. Hundreds of pictures were taken and a short film made of some of the participants.

Some of the resulting images went on show at the Station in Bristol and will be become part of a travelling exhibition.

To see how this project will be developed and some more of the work go to http://bsphotogcse.wix.com/2012 please be aware that this is work in progress and there’s more to come.

PCNW website states that the exhibition "features five contempor...
ary women artists whose work explores the role of women in the context of cultural constructs, religion, censorship, and the media. Each of these artists has left an important mark on the world of contemporary photography through their courageous and relevant work." The link below offers more info about each contributing photographer and some images from the show, which is great for the many of us who will not get the chance to visit the exhibition.
