On this season’s MasterChef, judge Graham Elliot has been busy putting home chefs through some grueling contests.

But at home, he’s been facing his biggest challenge: staying strong while his newborn son was in the hospital for six days.

A week after Jedediah Lindsay was born on Aug. 25, he had to be rushed to the emergency room.

“He had a fever of 100.5 and the doctor said, ‘You’ve got to take him to the ER for anything over 100,’” Elliot, 35, tells PEOPLE. “We expected it was going to be nothing, but his fever kept going up.”

Doctors had the baby boy undergo a series of tests — including an ultrasound, spinal tap and echocardiogram.

Just six days after Jersey Shore star Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and her fiancé Jionni LaValle welcomed their first child, Lorenzo Dominic, they opened their home to PEOPLE to help introduce him to the world.

“It’s a different kind of love that I never felt before,” says Polizzi, 24, who is currently filming the second season of her MTV spin-off Snooki & JWOWW.

It took more than 24 hours of labor, but the pint-sized reality star finally gave birth to her son on Aug. 26. Happily, she and LaValle, 25, say that choosing a moniker was much easier.

“We were going back and forth, and I just happened to think of Lorenzo,” says LaValle, who adds that he was inspired by a child he knew from his hometown, where he and Polizzi now live with his parents. “She loved it.”

She may have been known for her tough tactics on The Biggest Loser, but motherhood has left Jillian Michaels considerably softer — both inside and out.

“I went to interview Suze Orman for The Insider and her wife said, ‘You’re chubby!’ And Suze said, ‘You look like a mommy now,’” Michaels, 38, tells the October issue of Redbook magazine.

“I look at my body and go, ‘Five pounds heavier.’ But part of me really likes it.”

The new mom — she adopted Lukensia from Haiti last May — is determined to instill the same confidence in her daughter, from focusing on role models including the “curvaceous” Beyoncé to encouraging her toddler to be independent.

Joy Williams Introduces Son Miles Alexander

08/30/2012 at 05:30 PM ET

Joy Williams gave birth during a scorching heat wave in Nashville, but says her delivery was a breeze.

“I did it all naturally and really loved the experience. My husband [Nate Yetton] and I had just gone to the Belcourt to see the new Wes Anderson movie, and the air conditioning was out in the theater,” the female half of The Civil Wars tells PEOPLE. “I was so hot! I started feeling tiny pressure waves during the film, but they abated over time.”

Fast forward hours later and she was almost ready to deliver.

“The [contractions] woke me up at about 1:30 in the morning. And then those really gradual pressure waves grew to ‘Okay, I think it’s time to call the doula!’ It happened pretty quickly and it went really well,” Williams, 29, says. “I had a midwife and a doula. Nate was a champion of champions and so supportive and present.”
