For Vanessa Bryant, winning is not only an essential. It's everything.
"I certainly would not want to be married to somebody that can't win championships," the fashion figure and wife of Lakers star and five-time NBA champ Kobe Bryant tells New York magazine.
"If you're sacrificing time away from my family and myself for the benefit of winning championships," she says, "then winning a championship should happen every single year."
Married for 11 years, Vanessa, 30, and Kobe, 33, have endured their ups and downs – including her petition for divorce last year (she cited irreconcilable differences and terms for a settlement of his estimated $150 million estate were even negotiated). This was then followed by a reconciliation by this past Valentine's Day.

Britney's fans are out of this world – literally!
Spears, whose 2000 music video for the song "Oops! … I Did It Again" took place on Mars, has Tweeted at NASA's rover Curiosity, which landed on the Red Planet Aug. 5.
"So @MarsCuriosity... does Mars look the same as it did in 2000?" the X Factor judge posted on Twitter this week.
And the rover, which has already started to send images back to NASA and reportedly has a nuclear battery and a laser that can vaporize rock, wrote back!
Boy Starts 'Lick It List' for Dying Service Dog
Originally posted 08/17/2012 09:10AM
Earlier this week, the Merriam-Webster added the term "bucket list" to its vocabulary, describing it as "a list of things that one has not done before but wants to do before dying."
Already, the word is being redefined.
One 11-year-old boy from Canada is thanking his service dog in a very special way during the final days of the Jack Russell terrier's life.
Cole Hein set up a "Lick It List" for his 14-year-old dog Bingo, who was given to his family in 2005 by the Ontario-based National Service Dogs due to an undiagnosed medical condition that causes Cole to stop breathing.
Sparkle Lacks Shine: The PEOPLE Review
Originally posted 08/17/2012 08:40AM
I walked in hoping Sparkle would be reminiscent of Dreamgirls – another flashy remake about a singing trio in the 1960s with show-stopping musical performances, glittering gowns and, well, sparkle. That was not the case. Not even close.
Jordin Sparks plays Sparkle, a meek songwriter in Detroit with a secret ambition to be "bigger than Diana [Ross]." Though her controlling mother (the late Whitney Houston, in her final performance), has forbidden her from going into music, Sparkle secretly convinces her sisters, Dolores (Tika Sumpter) and Sister (Carmen Ejogo), to form a trio.
After their first taste of success, the women grapple with the darker side of fame – in other words, the clichéd battle with drugs and an abusive man.
While the film's melodrama is laughable (after Sister's comedian beau, played by Mike Epps, flops at a club, the two run – in slow-motion – to the car), the real problem is that it's unclear who the main character is supposed to be.

Owen Wilson's Late Night Ping-Pong Match
Originally posted 08/17/2012 06:00AM
Owen Wilson was game to stay up late recently, when he popped into Sister Louisa's Church of the Living Room & Ping Pong Emporium bar in Atlanta.
The actor, who arrived at around midnight, had an employee at the venue ring up owner Grant Henry to play against him in a Ping-Pong match, a source tells PEOPLE.
"Grant arrived at the bar and played a quick game withOwen, beating him 21-18," the insider says. "Owen requested a rematch, and Grant said only if the winner gets the other person's trucker hat."
In the end, it was a fair trade between Henry and Wilson – who the source says was "friendly and jovial, posing for photos with other people at the bar."
