On Tuesday night, the United States won its first men's Olympic distance running medal since 1968.
Leonel Manzano won silver in the blue riband 1500m race, coming just behind Algeria's Taoufik Makhloufi.
He told the BBC's Lucy Hockings that the US had not won a medal in men's long distance running for 44 years.
"I'm glad I can be the person to break that drought," he said.
