Kid-friendly fun: Disney FamilyFun offers kid-friendly ways to pull a prank. Most of them involve food, but there are printables and other silly ideas for practical jokes. Or check out Parenting.com's 15 silly tricks to play on your family. My fave: Freezing a bowl of water and adding corn flakes on top before you serve to an unsuspecting, hungry teen!

Office pranks: Tell all your coworkers about Google's new Gmail Motion where you control e-mail with your body; AprilFoolZone.com offers a host of crazy things to try, from computer tricks to office pranks, that will have coworkers rolling in their cubicles.

Target beats Walmart for low prices, retail surveys say

target-walmart.jpg

Two recent retail price-comparison studies show that Target's prices are slightly lower than the world's largest retailer Walmart. That's surprising news to me.

According to a March story on CNNMoney.com, the retail consulting firm Customer Growth Partners compared 35 brand-name items sold at both stores in New York, North Carolina and Indiana and found that Target's prices for the items was a whopping $1.94 cheaper than at Walmart. The survey compared milk, cereal and rice as well as clothing, home furnishings and health and beauty products.

A smaller study by Kantar Retail in January ecoed those results, finding Target's prices to be 2.8 percnet cheaper, but found that Walmart's prices on light bulbs, detergent and trash bags were cheaper.

Who's cheaper, Target or Walmart and in which store do you prefer to shop? I vote for Walmart.

Get travel-ready with new Sonia Kashuk cosmetic bags at Target

Ultimate%20Weekender%20%20in%20Geometric.jpg

A few weeks ago, Target was giving away free beauty bags stuffed with samples and coupons and I got mine in the mail yesterday. It's one of the best freebies I think I've ever received. (Did you get yours?) The makeup bag is a really lovely periwinkle blue geometic pattern and is part of Sonia Kashuk's new spring cosmetic bag collection at Target.

The new SK spring cosmetic bags come in six versatile styles of three mix-and-match patterns in solids and stripes. These nylon bags will definitely get you through the security line at the airport with ease and style. Plus, they're priced at a budget-friendly $5.99 to $39.99.

I love the Geo Weekender ($24.99), right. It's a nice, roomy bag with lots of pockets for stashing all my many travel makeup essentials. There is even a matching makeup brush collection!

Target%20dress.jpg

Every year about this time I begin my search for the perfect sundress. Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place. How about Target?

I recently saw this cute black (also in other colors) sundress from Libertine for $29.99, and many others at Target.

Target has a long list of designers for its spring dress collection that include Luella Bartley, Jovovich-Hawk, Zac Posen, and Proenza Schouler.

So step into spring and summer with a collection of sundresses. Of course, they're always the thing to wear in sunny South Florida.

Google launches Person Finder tool for Japan earthquake

Personfindertool.jpg

Google gives new meaning to the term "search engine" with the launch of an application to aid in the search for Japanese Earthquake victims.

The Person Finder: 2011 Japan Earthquake app creates records for missing and found persons into a database and then matches them up to aid in identifying injured and missing persons following the devastating 8.9 magnitude earthquake and resulting tsunami in Japan on Thursday.

The tool is offered as a companion on the Google Crisis Response home page, which offers a clearinghouse of information on alarms and warnings, disaster message boards, transportation status and maps.

The Person Finder tool asks "What is your situation?" and then gives two search options:

"I'm looking for someone" allows you to enter the person's name. "I have information about someone" lets you enter the family and given names and provide more information about the person.

As of Saturday, March 12, more than 50,000 records (and growing) were being tracked. The tool will be helpful as a central database for loves ones, relief agencies and goverments in helping to identify victims.

Google offered the search tool following earthquakes in Haiti in 2010 and New Zeland in February.

The lovely ladies who read the Sun Sentinel print edition and Shop-O-Matic blog turned out in force for the Sun Sentinel Shop-O-Matic Beauty Bash at Bloomingdale's in Boca Raton on Thursday night.

It was truly a girl's night out as hundreds of fans got their glam on while trying out the latest beauty trends for spring at the 15 participating cosmetic counters. Attendees got a Little Brown Bag stuffed with cosmetic samples along with a chance to win one of 14 fabulous raffle prizes of spring cosmetics.

The long menu of services offered to guests included Chanel helping you to "Shake Up Your Makeup" and try its new Vitalumière Aqua foundation along with a sample to take home; Laura Mercier was offering the Flawless Face; Clarins offered The Perfect Tan with its amazing range of self-tanners, shopomatic3 Lancome's National Makeup Artist Robert Cook was in the house painting pouts, while across the way at Sue Devitt Beauty, facials and makeovers were in full progress. Borghese offered "Mad for Mud" spa treatments and "Lady Di" over at Dior was offering lessons in the Perfect Eye. There were a cadre of professional makeup artists working their magic on women in chairs at Estee Lauder, Nars, Bobbi Brown, Shiseido, MAC, Guerlain and Clinique, too. Icing on the cake was relaxing chair massages offered by Lifetime Life Spa.

In addition to getting primped and pampered, Bloomie's offered refreshing pink lemonade and raspberry vodka cocktails at the open bar and yummy hors d'œuvres of shrimp, baked brie and other bite-sized treats (loved that Key lim pie!) passed by super-hunky servers. They were dancing in the aisles as music from the DJ further added to the festive atmosphere. (Overheard at the bar: shopomaticevent4.JPG "I'm going to the men's department. I need man.")

New comic book to feature superhero Charlie Sheen

CHARLIESHEENcomic.jpg

It's a Bird... It's a Plane...It's Charlie Sheen!

Able to leap tall whorehouses in a single bound without dropping his crack pipe, the former "Two and a Half Men" bad boy will be featured in an upcoming comic book series entitled "Infamous: Charlie Sheen" from Bluewater Productions.

With Sheen's unmatched super powers of tiger blood and Adonis DNA paired with his penchant for prostitutes and drugs, he sure sounds like a graphic novel.

The 32-page biographic comic, penned by Mark Shapiro and drawn by Fred Grivaud, will chronicle the troubled actor's outrageous behaviors and touch on substance abuse and mental health issues, said its creators, accourding to a press release. It will retail for $3.99 and is due out this summer. Unfortunately, we may already know the ending.

This lightweight liquid slips on like silk and offers invisible-yet-full coverage. It's available in 10 shades of rose and beige — and is worth every single penny.

Bobbi Brown's limited-edition Peony & Python collection paints purples and pinks on pouts with the creamy Lilac Rich Lip Color with SPF 12 and Pale Peony Rich Color Gloss ($22 each). The soft lilac and grey eye shadows in the Peony & Python Palette ($50) are nothing to blink at, either. They're just plum pretty and, as always, glide on like a dream.

Erase dark under-eye circles and fight fine lines with Sue Devitt's new Microquatic Bioluminescence Illuminating Concealer with SPF 20 ($25). This super-emollient coverup has light-reflecting properties along with Australian botanicals, antioxidant orchid extracts and Vitamin E. It comes in four shades.

neo-pastelblog.jpg
Soften up with the Clarins Neo Pastels Collection, right. The Blush Prodige Illuminating Cheek Colour ($28) in Miami Pink offers the perfect blend of matte and iridescent to get you glowing in the right direction. Pull off the hot matte lip look with Rouge Hydra Nude Smoothing Lipstick ($24) in four rich, moisturizing shades.

It's total infatuation with Estee Lauder's Pure Color Orange Crush Collection inspired by Derek Lam, straight off New York Fashion Week runways. The Pure Color Gloss and Eye Shadow ($20 each) look fantastic on all skin tones. Also tops for tips are the Pure Color Nail Lacquers in Hot Coral, Mega Fuchsia, Purple Passion and, for daring gals, Wicked Green and Wild Blue ($19).

You can't get much bolder than Lime Crime's D'Lilac's and My Beautiful Rocket opaque lipsticks ($16 each). This hip line's motto is: "So bright, it's illegal!" And these super-bold, long-wearing formulas in 10 shades are not for the faint of heart. (Get 'em at the Space NK counter at Bloomies.)

Go completely Gaga with MAC's nude-shaded Viva Glam Gaga 2 Amplified Crème Lipstick or Lipglass ($14.50), inspired by the Lady herself. Plus, your purchase benefits the MAC AIDS Fund.

Trend tip
Want to get the hot matte lip look without buying a new lipstick? Just apply your favorite lipstick and dust a little translucent powder over lips. Voila!

MyGallons.com lets you hedge against high price of gas

MYGALLONS.jpg

The website MyGallons.com lets you buy gas online at today's prices and use it when the fuel prices rise. You buy a membership and purchase the fuel through the company. It's sort of like joining a warehouse club like Cosco to save on fuel purchases.

It's hard to believe you might want to consider pre-purchasing gas at $3.50 a gallon, but considering news reports are saying gas could hit $5 a gallon due to protests and unrest in Libya, this might make a good buy. (Check out our handy, dandy gas calculator.)

Consumers and business with fleets can purchase an annual membership for $30 and $79, respectively, and then pre-purchase the fuel online, locking in the current price. Then, when prices rise, you can cash-in the fuel at today's price. You decided when to cash in your reserves. The more prices rise, the more you can save.

Let's say you purchase 200 gallons of fuel today at $3.35 for $670. Should gas prices rise to $5, and you choose to cash it in, you would save $330. The savings can be put into your checking account or loaded on a MyGallons Fuel Savings Card, which costs an additional $5.

The site offers current fuel prices by state and a savings calculator as well as the latest news on gas prices.

MyGallons has a money-back guarantee within 30 days of joining. You'll get a full refund of your membership fee plus the company will process a return for unused gallons.
