When did you last enjoy a sunset without the sound of airplanes or traffic? Situated thirteen miles south of the Oklahoma border and thirty-five miles west of the four state intersection of Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas and Louisiana, De Kalb is the perfect place to come home to at the end of a long day at work, or long years of hard work. Although close to wonderful shopping, hunting, fishing, horseback riding, golfing, excellent schools and health care services, our town is still tucked away from the hustle and bustle of city life. |

At night, we can still see the stars and hear the sounds of nature whether it’s the wind through the pines or the dove and locusts. In Spring, the smells of Magnolia, Jasmine and Gardenia in bloom fill the air.
Our motto is “The Friendly City,” and it aptly describes our people. In a letter from his new home in the budding village in De Kalb in 1837, David M. Chisholm noted the prospect of having “one of the finest neighborhoods on the Red River.” Both citizens of the town and the outlying communities work together to make this place just as peaceful for future generations as it is today.

Aside from industry, we encourage “green” projects to preserve our environment. De Kalb has an Industrial Park gradually being occupied by companies who recognize the value of the location. Those of us who moved away and have come back know just what a treasure our community is. Read on to learn more.
Located between the Red and the Sulphur Rivers, De Kalb is the birthplace and final resting place of Dan Blocker, “Hoss Cartwright” on the long running television series Bonanza. Huddie “Leadbelly” Ledbetter, King of the twelve string guitar and writer of “Goodnight Irene,” and “Cotton Fields Back Home,” spent some time in this land between two rivers, as did Durwood Merrill, American League Umpire, Luke Walker, pitcher for the Pittsburg Pirates, Mike White and Donny Sparks, prominent Rodeo personalities, and Jay Scott Roden, a world re-known transplant surgeon.
