Capacity Building Assistance to Strengthen Public Health Infrastructure and Performance

About this Initiative

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)  is funding 8 national, non-profit professional public health organizations totaling $6.78 million.  The overall goal of this intiative is to support the provision of capacity building assistance (CBA) for state, tribal, local and territorial (STLT) health departments to ensure successful adoption of effective practices that strengthen core public health infrastructure investments.  Supported through the Prevention and Public Health Fund of the Affordable Care Act, the money is being distributed through cooperative agreements to support the following activities:

Part I

Five organizations were awarded funds to identify, synthesize, package, and disseminate best or promising practices for adaptation in the field, and evaluate best or promising practices that increase the effectiveness and efficiency of public health infrastructure investments.

  2. Association for State and Territorial Health Officials
  3. National Association of County and City Health Officials
  4. National Network for Public Health Institutes
  5. Public Health Foundation

Part II

Three organizations were awarded funds to increase the epidemiology workforce and to expand existing e-learning technology.

  1. Association for State and Territorial Health Officials
  2. Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists
  3. Public Health Foundation

Part III

Six organizations were awarded funds to expand adoption and use of evidence-based approaches and The Guide to Community Preventive Services among STLT health departments and their partners.

  1. Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs
  2. Association for State and Territorial Health Officials
  3. National Association of County and City Health Officials
  4. National Association of Local Boards of Health
  5. National Network for Public Health Institutes
  6. Public Health Foundation
