Research at the IEC

Since its inception in 1972, the IEC has taken the lead in the development of thin-film photovoltaic cells and the education of students and professionals with expertise in photovoltaic research, development, and design. The Institute is the only thin-film photovoltaic laboratory in the world currently conducting basic research and development on a broad range of thin-film solar cell materials, process equipment, and device design.

In this section of the site, you’ll find out more about the IEC’s Research Areas, including: Cadmium Telluride (CdTe), Copper Indium Gallium Selenide (CIGS), and Silicon. There’s also information about the Institute’s Capabilities, including the Technologies the laboratory offers, the Equipment it has at its disposal to conduct research, and the Facilities that house them all. Finally, you’ll find information on the IEC’s Safety protocols.
