Will Dems Move Convention Following North Carolina’s Ban of Gay Marriage?

This week was an active one in the national debate on same-sex marriage. On Tuesday, North Carolina voters approved a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage and civil unions. Then on Wednesday, President Obama came out in support of allowing same-sex couples to marry. The issue grows even more complicated because Democrats have spent millions of dollars on plans to hold their convention in the very state that just approved the ban. So, will the convention be moved?

Sally Kohn weighed in on America Live, saying, “It’s not going to get moved. It’s too far into the planning.” She believes that Democrats can view this as a teachable moment and that “14 percent of North Carolina voters turned out to vote on the fates of 100 percent of North Carolina’s families. So, when the president goes down there, when Democrats go down there, obviously 86 percent of the state isn’t decided on same-sex marriage, marriage equality, or not motivated enough to go out in support of fundamental rights.” She believes that they can use this time to make their case to voters. Crazy Video: Police Searching for Philadelphia Man Who Used Hot Coffee as a Weapon in Bill Dispute

Philadelphia may indeed be the City of Brotherly Love, but it’s safe to say there wasn’t much of it within the four walls of one local coffee shop recently when a bill dispute turned ugly. It was during the morning rush when a man waiting for his order was asked by the woman behind the counter to pay for the coffee. The total charge was $2.50. The man thought he’d already paid and proceeded to take his piping hot coffee and throw it at the employee.

The woman sustained serious burns from the incident, and police are continuing their search for the suspect.

Part 2: Ann Romney on What She Thinks of First Lady Michelle Obama, and How Battling Breast Cancer and MS ‘Softened Her Heart’

As we approach Mother’s Day this Sunday, it didn’t escape Martha MacCallum in a recent interview with Ann Romney that this time next year, the wife of presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney could be celebrating the day in the White House. In part two of the sit-down, Martha gets to the bottom of what Ann thinks of the current and past first ladies, the kind of first lady she herself would be, and the role faith has played in helping her overcome her diagnoses of breast cancer and multiple sclerosis.

Although the mother of five told MacCallum that she “doesn’t really think that far forward” when it comes to envisioning where she’ll be living next Mother’s Day, she affirmed that she very well could be spending it in the big white house on Capitol Hill. As for her mission as first lady if husband Mitt were to get elected, she said she would bring her own personality to the ‘job.’

“For me, of course, it’ll have something to do with the things I care about,” she said, mentioning her concern for breast cancer and MS research and awareneses. “I also worked for many years with at-risk youth, so I know I wouldn’t be able to give that up either.” (More…)
