If you have a narrow hallway, are you wondering how to make it visually appealing or more useful? Below are some wonderful examples of how to use your hallway to make an impact.
Don't have the room for a wall of built-ins? Here is a wonderful option that will still give you plenty of storage space without claiming the entire hallway.
Add an architectural element that forces your eye to look up. This ceiling treatment makes you zoom in on its beauty rather than the constraints of the space below.
Use the space to showcase an accent wall. Using such a material for your wall does not require any extra space, yet it makes a strong design statement.
... or display your art collection. Your only limitation when it comes to art: Make sure it is detailed enough so no one has to step back to admire it.
I thought they said "narrow" hallway. Obviously I was wrong. Narrow hallways generally preclude building shelves, etc in them, and in my experience, most narrow hallways don't feature windows with great views. Lets see what can be done with an actual narrow hallway!
I agree with coppertops. Too many times I have checked out ideas for "tiny kitchens!" or "tiny bathrooms!" and I just have to shake my head. Want to see a tiny kitchen or bathroom? Come to my house. There's no room for islands or extraneous furniture of any kind. These people really need a wakeup call when it comes to true small spaces.
Agreed. At lease include dimensions needed for adequate: bookcase, linens, off-season clothing. Would love to have seen something truly creative/useful other than bookcase/photos
I agree that most of these are not truly narrow spaces. We actually were able to fit in very narrow bookshelves into our regular size hallway and really increased the storage in our small home. We kept the shelves low so they didn't overwhelm the small corridor, and it also allowed us space to hang pictures above. Every inch mattered, but we made it work and we love how it turned out. You can see pics of the project here: http://the2bedroomblues.wordpress.com/2012/02/20/finding-space-hallway-bookcases/
I love the idea of hanging art in hallways. It's such a nice touch and surprise in an otherwise unused space.
We have a huge selection of photos in sleek, frameless displays at www.printedart.com. We print is various sizes and mount under acrylic with an aluminum dibond backing for a durable, easy to clean, frameless design. For a matte finish or a more traditional look, we also mount on dibond without acrylic or on stretch canvas.
I agree that no matter how narrow your hallway, there's always room for art. Thank goodness it's flat! We like to put vintage posters or highly colorful art into otherwise rather boring corridors.
