GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Authorities in Pitt County have issued an Amber Alert for a 6-day-old boy and his mother, who they believe has abducted him.

The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office issued the alert Monday for Kayden Chavis, described as approximately 20 inches long and weighing six pounds.

Deputies are also looking for 30-year-old Jessica Chavis, identified as a black female who is 5 feet, 4 inches tall and 130 pounds with black hair.

The Daily Reflector of Greenville reports that sheriff’s department spokeswoman Christy Wallace said the baby was at the home of an unidentified relative and that the Pitt County Department of Social Services was coming to take custody of the boy. Wallace didn’t say why the department was taking custody.

Officials believe the baby is in danger, but won’t say why.
