Frequently Asked Questions

What will my group do at Conner Prairie?

Be ready for hands-on fun and excitement as you visit our unique historic areas. Costumed residents will invite you to participate in activities and engage in conversations with your group. Staff wearing blue Conner Prairie shirts will help you make connections between past and present, and be able answer your modern day questions.

When are the outdoor historic areas open?

The outdoor areas are open April-October and some event weekends in December.

Will I need a tour guide?

Your visit is self-guided. Upon your arrival, we will supply you with maps to help you select which areas to visit and how long to spend in each area. Conner Prairie staff, located throughout the Welcome Center and historic areas, are available if you have questions or need assistance.

How long should I allow for my group visit?

Allow at least three hours for your visit, although there is plenty to do if you stay longer. If you are having lunch, add 30 minutes extra. Groups with very young children may want to spend less time.

How many adults should I bring with my youth group?

For ages 7–12, we recommend at least one adult for every ten children; for ages 2–6, at least one adult for every five children.

What options are there for lunch?

Lunch options:

  • Pre-order a Prairie Sack Lunch (plus 8% tax; please let us know if your group is tax-exempt). Lunches include your choice of sandwich, wrap, or salad, beverage, cookie, and chips. View menus here for adult and school groups.
  • Enjoy lunch on your own at CafĂ© on the Common.
  • Bring a sack lunch and picnic under the big shade trees adjacent to the parking area or at the picnic area near the Welcome Center entrance. You can easily re-enter from these areas.
  • Catered functions can also be arranged to meet the needs of your group.

Should my group bring extra money for purchases?

Explore our unique variety of artist-made items, gourmet treats and distinctive gifts. Inspire children to take history home with them with prairie kids' costumes and pioneer games and toys.
