I did read Ann Rule's updated book where there is much more to this case than can be presented by an hour long show. Sloppy police work destroyed crucial evidence, and for believing the soon-to-be Ex husband's word rather than investigate. I still cannot fathom how in an alleged suicide - which he claimed even by sending in a death certifcate to claim Ronda's life insurance (which he was late paying) would even pay on a suicide! Watching this I "see" lies in the husband's and stepson's manner of answering and speaking. Pathetic for "good bye sex" - ridiculous! I am glad Barb won her case to have the cause of death changed. Reply to this comment by leilalu78 April 28, 2012 1:53 PM EDT It is amazing how much the media shapes our thoughts and views on things. We should be good little automaton droids and believe whatever they feed us.So much work to manipulate how things appear. Although the ending to this story is a horrible one....i think the biggest lie in manipulating the public is the way they describe Rhonda herself. Of course the smiling , pretty lady who rides horses, and according to her mother was so many wonderful things that she couldn't possibly have taken her own life!....however the comment about when she married her first husband she fell in love with his children is a crook of s***! As a friend of the family, she was not a very LOVING step mother. In fact she was cruel and extremely jealous of any attention given to the children from their father that wasn't given to her. She forced the daughter to cut the heads off chickens for dinner even though the girl cried and cried not wanting to kill an animal. I'm not saying this proves she wasn't murdered, but if this was shown, this side of her, it could be thought that she was a VERY unhappy person, who made a lot of BAD decisions. Filled with regret and on anti depressants herself, who knows what she was capable of. Also, people who intend to kill themselves rarely let people know, especially if they want to succeed in doing so. I don't think highly of the Reynolds family, however in view of the fact that Rhonda was a liar and manipulator who was very good at setting up scenarios that to a trusting listener would easily be believed as true.Too bad the investigation and police work tampered with and destroyed any evidence that could show truth. All the media has to do is show one person as bad and the other as good and we think "oh that must be the truth" or " ooh did you see the way he answered that question??, he must be guilty" PEOPLE!!! They are in front of cameras, and lights, and being grilled as to whether they murdered or NOT???? Who under pressure would answer perfectly...being uncomfortable and guilty can look pretty similar. I don't believe Rhonda was sadistic, however cruel....yeah I witnessed cruel on her treatment of her step children from first marriage at first sight. Reply to this comment by sumiko_san April 28, 2012 6:59 AM EDT I think Phonda commited a suicide. It's not only that I believe she tried to trap her husband like a killer. Reply to this comment by rkdp April 27, 2012 4:27 PM EDT The part that seems to be ignored is that this guy is a Jehovah's Witness. If they think their church could be shamed, they are encouraged to lie. For evidence of this teaching, do a search of "Theocratic Warfare". I have heard JW friends lie. They are very deceptive in their words. Though I like these folks, I've learned to never trust the word of a JW if they think they, or their church might be exposed and embarrassed. Reply to this comment by zwergie1 April 27, 2012 8:03 AM EDT what happened to the writting in lipstick on the mirror; call me later, love you etc.? And who's phone number was that? Reply to this comment by Karlsson33 April 27, 2012 5:22 AM EDT I really did not see anything that would make me sure it wasn't a suicide. Media in America is a powerful thing. It can release childkillers like WM3 and it can ruin lives just by telling stories convincingly Reply to this comment by Str8upp April 26, 2012 8:49 PM EDT Something smells: The son claims he started using "meth" after his step-mother's death. He never disputed that it was meth. That alone sounds like a lie. Second: all the adults involved acted inappropriately..ronda hopped from one marriage to another. The man she married, ron reynolds, is on his 4th wife..ewww...women slow down...honestly. And, honestly, the murder does not know what her daughter was thinking. She knows what her daughter told her...but there is much more to this story and the ex-hubby and his sons have explaining to do. And, so does the ex-wife who just happened to be sleeping with ron the night after his deceased wife is in the morgue. What losers. This is a case of a man who can not be alone and hops from woman to woman as well. Reply to this comment by NewAgeMatlock April 26, 2012 3:18 PM EDT ..... now that I think about it, she could have held the gun funny and pulled the trigger with her thumb :( sad Reply to this comment by mangchidang April 26, 2012 1:10 PM EDT Best-selling true-crime author Ann Rule I want to say that you shouldn't write a novel based on this story. I think Jonathan and his father is very suspicious. but no body knows what is true. until everything is clear, you should not use this story as your own interests. Reply to this comment by lomaco58 April 26, 2012 2:30 AM EDT The son, Jonathon, knows more than he is saying. He doesn't look directly at Mr. Van Zant when he answers questions. The father knows more too, he has weird answers. "Good-bye sex?" Really? I don't believe that. He showed no emotions. Jonathon doesn't appear to be believable and smirks at the questions. The father doesn't remember if his ex-wife slept with him or not? Karma will win out. If Jonathon or his father killed Rhonda, the other could be guilty of helping to cover up the crime. Who covered Rhonda with the blanket and who doesn't know which hand their spouse uses? This family is vile and sneaky. They are both guilty and they know it.
