Cuban officials, exiles hold dialogue via video
HAVANA — More than 100 Cuban-Americans and top Cuban government officials have talked about ongoing economic reforms and migration rules during a videoconference between Havana and Washington.
It is the latest in an apparent effort by the Cuban government to reach out to segments of the large exile community in hopes of improving relations.
Many exiles say they want nothing to do with Havana until Raul and Fidel Castro are gone. But others are looking to play a role in the changes their homeland is undergoing.
During Saturday's videoconference, one Cuban-American complained that the island's laws turn those who leave into "second-class citizens."
A Foreign Ministry official said a much-anticipated migration reform will take into account the changes that emigration has brought about.
