Richard did a Ph.D at Oxford in philosophy, where he was a Fellow of All Souls College. His thesis was in the philosophy of perception. Prior to that, he did a BA at Oxford in philosophy, politics, and economics.

Jarques Pretorius Designer

Jarques graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Web Design and Interactive Media from the Art Institute of California - San Francisco.

Ryan Lower Engineer

Ryan did his BSc in Genetics at York University, and from 2006-2010 pursued a PhD on the evolution of bacterial genome composition.

Ryan Fitzgerald Engineer

Ryan joined Academia.edu in September 2010 and works on building features and infrastructure.

Leslie Pineda Sales Director

Leslie joined as Sales Director of Academia.edu in May 2011. Prior to this, she worked at Nature Publishing Group selling recruitment advertising.

Wybo Wiersma Engineer

Wybo has just finished a Master's in the Social Science of the Internet at Oxford. Prior to that, he did an MA in Digital Humanities, and 3 BAs in History, Philosophy of Information Science, and Information Science. He also built a discussion site for philosophers, LogiLogi.

Dmitri Akatov Engineer

Another Oxford alum, Dmitri completed his Ph.D on Parallel Algorithms in Constraint Satisfaction Problem Decompositions in 2010 and worked for a hedge fund in London before moving to (not quite as) sunny (as he hoped) California.

Ryan Jordan Head of Talent

Ryan joined as Head of Talent in March 2012 after recruiting world-class engineers for NASA, Google, Facebook, and Scribd. Ryan also holds a Masters Degree in Business from San Jose State University.
