Jacob Kushner is a multimedia freelance journalist currently based in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison with a B.A. in journalism and Latin American studies. In 2007, he spent six months in the Dominican Republic conducting research that examined how the education system there reinforces societal prejudices toward Haitians. He speaks fluent Spanish and conversational Haitian Creole.
His current work focuses on immigration topics and foreign investment in Haiti including development aid.
Jacob has worked for the Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism, La Comunidad News in Madison, and the Daily Cardinal. He has contributed to such media as the Associated Press, Newsweek, Global Post, California Watch, WLRN South Florida, the Florida Center for Investigative Reporting and the Nation Institute, World Pulse Magazine, the New Internationalist, and JazzTimes Magazine.
