Everybody remembers the good ol' Pokémon of
the Day Guy, right? Well, once Gold and Silver hit the shores of the US
and all the hype had died down a bit, he decided to move to the top of
Mount Kilimanjaro to seek enlightenment. Now that every self-respecting
Pokémaniac has Ruby and Sapphire on the brain, however, it's high
time we revitalize the age-old tradition of bringing you your Pokémon
of the Day! And, as everyone knows, there's only one thing better than
a Pokémon of the Day Guy...a Pokémon of the Day Chick!
Each and every day we'll be taking a close and personal look at one of these unique creatures called Pokémon. Here you'll find all the moves you could ever want (learned, hereditary and all compatible TMs/HMs from G/S/C and R/B/Y, if applicable), breeding chains for hereditary moves, Pokédex entries, general descriptions, max stats, in-game locations, weaknesses and resistances, gameplay tips and one or more suggested movesets (SUGGESTED, people; I'm not telling you what to do) to get the most bang for your Pokébuck. ===============================INTRODUCTION============================== Today's Pokemon is none other than everyone's favorite trash-talker, Meowth! Followers of the Pokemon anime know this little guy as an established member of the nefarious Team Rocket in addition to the only non-Psychic Pokemon currently known to speak "human". Meowth is also popular amongst trainers who've never watched the anime simply because he's a cat (there are a LOT of cat lovers out there, myself being one of them). While somewhat lacking in stats, Meowth more than makes up for it in personality and interesting move options. Granted, he doesn't have the Special Attack to use most of them...but you gotta give the guy an A for effort. |

NAME: Meowth
TYPE: Scratchcat (Normal) HEIGHT: 1' 4" WEIGHT: 9 lbs. |
|
EVOLUTION: evolves into Persian at level 28 AVAILIBLE IN: Blue, Silver, Crystal LOCATION: It's somewhat surprising that such a popular Pokemon would be left out of fully half of the existing Pokemon games, but the fact remains that Red, Yellow and Gold owners will all have to trade if they ever hope to own a Meowth. This Pokemon is quite common on Routes 5-8 in Blue, Silver and Crystal, in addition to Routes 38 and 39 in Silver and Crystal. ==================================MOVES================================== |

Suggested moveset
Behold! The most evil Meowth of all time! I affectionately call mine "DemonKitty". From a purely philosophical standpoint, this thing could send even the vicious Gengar running for cover. Honestly, when a Pokemon as cute and innocent-looking as Meowth is actually capable of learning such ghastly (not to be confused with Gastly) moves, what mere mortal could resist putting them on? The first three moves are pretty self-explanatory. Meowth puts the foe to sleep with Hypnosis, sets up a Nightmare to steadily drain their HP as long as they remain asleep, and uses Dream Eater both to further lower the opponent's HP as well as to replenish its own health somewhat. This particular set would obviously work better in a GameBoy link battle than a Pokemon Stadium 2 battle, since a link battle provides for up to eight rounds of sleep in contrast to Stadium 2's maximum of four. Thief is the most interesting and useful move in this particular set and is the reason I suggest no held item for this Meowth. As a flat-out attack, Thief is has a base power of 60 and is a Dark-type move...but the main draw of the move is its ability to "steal" the opponent's held item so long as the Pokemon using Thief isn't already holding something. Meowth is one quick little Pokemon, so send him in against some of the slower tanks in the game who you know are heavily dependent on their held items. Your opponent sends out a Marowak? See how quickly that thing goes crying home to Mommy once you gank its Thick Club, sending its mighty 516 Attack careening down to a negligible 258. Lapras and Lanturn flaunting their massive HP? They'll quickly learn how unimportant HP is as compared to solid Defensive stats once you relieve them of their HP-restoring Leftovers. Pikachu and Meowth are matched point for point in Speed, so if you happen to have a higher Speed DV you just might be able to spirit away Pikachu's precious Light Ball before it has a chance to Thunderbolt you into oblivion. Once the offending item has been successfully stolen Meowth is pretty much through, considering its dismal Defenses...but by depriving your opponent of said helpful item will go a long way towards ensuring that Pokemon won't live long enough to decimate the rest of your team. Now, let's think logically for a moment...would I honestly recommend a moveset upon which 3/4 is dependent on a 60% accurate move AND assumes the opponent won't switch out for a serious battle? Of course not. Not to mention there isn't a single STABed attack in this set...this is just for fun! I don't expect many people to take an unevolved Pokemon into an earnest battle in the first place due to their immature stats; we keep Pokemon in their younger forms for the novelty of it (I do, anyway), thus this is a novelty set. Other novelty moves to consider might be Pay Day (Meowth's calling card) or Bubblebeam (rabid Meowth on the loose!!). Don't worry, I'll be sure to provide you with a "real" set when it's time to discuss Persian. Or, if you'd prefer not to wait, feel free to email me or ask the masses on IGN's Pokemon Board! Meanwhile I hope you won't begrudge me for having a little fun with some of the unevolved Pokemon; I do have to analyze every single one of them! Though this set might actually work against a Wobbuffet if Hypnosis was able to hit before a Safeguard was in place... Okay, now I'm just babbling...so get out there and have fun with this sassy feline while I pull myself together in time for tomorrow's Pokemon of the Day!
