Scranton Restaurants Come and Go

A wave of different business openings and closings has hit downtown Scranton in the past year.

Juliann Gombosi of Williamsport, who is in town to pick up her daughter, Emily, from the University of Scranton, along with her two daughters and her daughter's friend. They stopped at Brixx Grille and Tavern only to see the "Closed Permanently" sign on the door.

"It was disappointing. We thought they were not open for lunch, that they only had a dinner menu because Emily was just there last week, and she said how wonderful it was," Gombosi said.

Though it's unclear exactly why Brixx closed up shop, the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce pointed to the stagnant economy hitting all small business owners everywhere.

Brixx is not the only bar to close down within the last year. The sports bar Whistles on Franklin Avenue closed last fall, and the Irish pub, Mollie Brannigan's closed its doors last year.
