NEW YORK (TheWrap.com) - Do social media sites like Facebook and Twitter have a liberal bias?

"Internet users who describe their political ideology as moderate or liberal are more likely than conservatives to use social networking sites," a new study from the Pew Research Center's Internet and American Life Project says.

Pew divided its study between the overall population and the population of internet users. Among the latter, 74 percent of those identifying themselves as liberal use social networking sites -- as compared to only 60 percent who identify themselves as conservative are on social networking sites.

When expanded to the general population, the gap narrows slightly. Some 60 percent of those identifying as liberal use social networking sites, while 49 percent of conservatives fit that bill.

Does this add more fodder for complaints that the media is an elite, liberal enclave? Does it mean conservatives need to mount a big social media campaign?

Or maybe it just means liberals are in love with themselves, so they want to post about their lives.

Social venues are open places that anyone can express their views, regardless of how well the line up with others. This doesn't fit with something Conservatives find interesting.

After all, Conservatives have already learned everything they want to learn. And certainly don't want to be told or shown otherwise.

It means conservatives are afraid of other people and are too terrified to let in differing opinions based in reality that would contradict their own fallacies.

Or... It could mean people with higher IQ's tend to to see the value of diversity and cooperation. That intellectual advantage is probably beneficial in learning and applying new technologies as well. I'm speaking in general terms here. I'm not saying conservatives are dumb, I'm sure there are some smart ones out there, but several studies have shown a connection between progressive politics and intelligence.

We liberals tend to respect diversity and are less threatened by differing opinions.

We are seeing some of these numbers as well in our "Fantasy Politics" game - Fanitics.com

It seems younger, more educated players are more likely to trade or add their politicians than others. But that doesn't necessarily mean that they'll always win. Sometimes, the more conservative player holds on through the down times for their politicians.

Considering most GOP states are the poorest, least educated.. ie don't believe in evolution, global warming, college education..etc and still think Obama is a Muslim. Why should this suprise me!

Simply put, the internet progresses too quickly for conservatives. This isn't meant as a derogatory statement, simply an identification of causal effects.

Conservatism: Tending or disposed to maintain existing views, conditions, or institutions.

This philosophy isn't conducive to fast paced change; and suffers at the hands of exponential technological advance.
