Ambitious renewable energy targets to 2020 are driving demand for bioenergy, as a reliable and stable source of renewable heat and power. Bioenergy covers the conversion of biomass to energy via solid, liquid and gaseous fuels and takes place at large industrial and domestic scales. Dedicated biomass to electricity, biomass co-firing and anaerobic digestion plant are in operation and new Advanced Conversion Technologies (ACTs) are near commercialisation.
