State Government Finances provides a comprehensive summary of annual survey findings for state governments. The tables and data files present the following details:

  • Revenue, by type of revenue
  • Expenditure, by object and function of expenditure
  • Indebtedness, by long-term or short-term debt, and
  • Asset, by purpose and type of asset

2010 Annual Survey of State Government Finances

  • State Summary Table – Viewable summary tables for the U.S. and individual states.

  • Lottery Table – Income and apportionment of state administered lottery funds.
  • Downloadable Data
  • Summary Table [EXCEL, 47KB] – Spreadsheet format of the U.S. and state summary tables.
  • Flat Data File [TXT, 501KB] – Detailed tax item data for each of the 50 state governments (file layout).
  • Lottery Table [PDF, 108KB] – Income and apportionment of state administered lottery funds.

Release Schedule

Summer 2012:  Scheduled release of revised data for the 2008 and 2009 Annual Survey of State Government Finances. This data release is in conjunction with the initial release of the 2010 State and Local Finance data.

Winter 2012:  New release of preliminary data for fiscal year 2011.
