Pennsylvanians Await Governor's Budget Address

Governor Tom Corbett will unveil his latest budget proposal Tuesday in Harrisburg.

Last year, the Republican who campaigned on tightening belts, so to speak, followed through with funding cuts across the board.

This year, Pennsylvanians are bracing for more of the same.

Last year, Governor Corbett slashed funding for public education and kept his promise not to raise taxes.

Now, many people wonder how the governor will try to make up another multi-million dollar budget shortfall and who will pay.

Inside Hope Enterprises in Williamsport, people are hard at work putting boxes together. Hope receives most of its funding from the state government and in turn, helping people with developmental disabilities.

Things are tight these days after Hope Enterprises lost more than $1 million in state funding last year, said Executive Director Jim Campbell.

MTV's "Jersey Shore" in PA?

A story that's been generating quite the buzz comes from Central Pennsylvania.

Jersey Shore has said no thanks to the possibility of a reality series with MTV.

Not that the cable network ever had any serious interest in filming a spin-off of"Jersey Shore"in Jersey Shore, Lycoming County.

However, a public relations stunt got people talking about it quite a bit.

Jersey Shore in Lycoming County might share the same name as MTV's popular reality series.

Beyond that, however, the two have had nothing else in common, until now.

After Hoboken, New Jersey said no thanks to a spin-off of Jersey Shore a local film office suggested MTV should do it here, and pretty soon, the whole community was talking.

“They're out nightclubbing and all that stuff, party girls, fancy hair and makeup. What are they going to find, too cold to go down the river," Said Bonnie Walk of Jersey Shore.

DEP Investigating Three Spills at Gas Well

State environmental officials are investigating three separate spills at a gas well pad in Lycoming County.

It is not the first time the company Pennsylvania General Energy has been in the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection's crosshairs.

Last spring residents along Pine Creek north of Jersey Shore were outraged when high waters washed away a temporary stone dam.

The dam was put in the creek by PGE, but did not have proper approval from the state.

Now some of those same residents are concerned after three spills at the same PGE natural gas well pad near the creek.

Mark Givler lives where Ramsey Run empties into Pine Creek along Route 44 north of Jersey Shore. Recently Givler heard there had been a spill at a gas well pad less than a mile from his home. He began to worry that whatever had spilled might have made its way into his well water.

Williamsport Area Getting Much Needed New Housing

For months, a housing shortage has been affecting renters in Lycoming County.

Much of that problem is a by-product of the growing natural gas industry.

New apartments are finally going up which could be a sign of things to come for the Williamsport area.

Contractors are putting the finishing touches on new apartment buildings just outside the city.

Diamond Pointe Apartments was the multi-million dollar idea of local developers who saw the growing need for housing thanks to the natural gas industry.

Twenty-four apartments opened recently and another 24 will open in a few months.

Already it is clear there is a high demand for apartments.

"We haven't done any advertising yet except for a small sign on the street and we have nine rented already in the first building," said Dottie White who serves as a leasing representative for Diamond Pointe Apartments.
