Community engagement is a “… strategy in the transformation of higher education in relation to community development priorities” by using the expertise of UNISA in the areas of teaching and research to address issues relevant to these priorities to the mutual benefit of the community and the University.
Unisa ‘s Community Engagement and Outreach Policy is set firmly within the vision of Unisa, namely to be the African university in the service of humanity.
The College of Science, Engineering and Technology (CSET) recognizes that the community as a whole expects us to engage with them through meaningful research and teaching which addresses the needs of the nation. The executive dean of CSET initiated three College Flagship Projects, which have been successful thanks to the active participation and involvement of staff members in the college.

These projects are designed to entice young learners into science, engineering and technology and also help them overcome the fear of subjects which form the foundation of the scientific fields.
