Lifetime Mobility in the United States: 2010
Family moves in to new home

According to the 2010 ACS 1-year estimates,

  • 45.3 million people lived in a different house within the United States one year earlier.
  • Of these movers, 6.7 million lived in a different state.
  • The majority of Americans (59 percent) lived in the state in which they were born.
