Pirelli announce tyre choices for remaining races 07 Oct 2011
Pirelli, the official tyre supplier to the FIA Formula One World Championship, have announced the tyre compound allocations for the last three rounds of 2011.
At the Indian race, which takes place later this month, the soft tyre will be used as the prime compound along with the hard tyre as the option. With initial impressions suggesting that the asphalt at the brand-new Buddh circuit is quite abrasive and with high ambient temperatures expected, Pirelli hope the choice will cater for every eventuality and strategy.
For the final two Grands Prix of the season in Abu Dhabi and Brazil, the medium and soft compounds will be used.
"India is a big unknown for all the teams and ourselves, so we will also be taking the most durable hard tyre in order to cover every base," explained Pirelli's motorsport director Paul Hembery. "Abu Dhabi is much more familiar territory for us, where we know that the medium and the soft tyre will suit the circuit well.
"As for Interlagos, were aiming to end the season on a high. The combination of medium and soft rubber has given us some close racing in the past, lots of overtaking and provided some good opportunities for interesting pit-stop strategies."
