I believe the price for adotping animals are so high because you are not only buying the dog but you are giving money to the shelter so they can continue to resuce animals. Both of my dogs are rescues. Not from a shelter but from an abusive home. I am also looking for a rescue at the moment but I can't seem to find French Bulldog rescues in the Chicago area.

What if the pounds are charging $300 for a dog? It's not free everywhere I look, and it's making it a harder decision to buy a dog with (most likely) some abuse issues/abandonment issues. I'd love to adopt, but for the same price, you can get a new dog. Where's a pound (maryland area) that I can get a dog for free, or close to free??

Bur getting the dog from the shelter kinda screws over the pet store dog, doesn't it? It's not like pet store dogs dont deserve loving families too. Who's the dick now, Peta?

When I was young, we bought a dog from a breeder after the dog we rescued from the shelter tried to bite our trainer's face off. More recently, we've adopted three cats from Petco, but the animals there were from a shelter that brings in a few cats and dogs weekly.

I'm guilty of buying a dog from a breeder. After visiting several shelters, all we mostly found were chihuahuas and pit bulls. Neither of which would have been a good fit in our home. But we did adopt a couple of our kittys from the shelter.

the dog got a home. he is no longer in a stupid pet store. good for him. a home is a home..... there are ways to fight the pet store issue without dissing the animals stuck in there.

yes there are so many animals being put to sleep because no one wants them,, please check the animal shelters and adopt these poor needy animals. this will also help stop the demand for the puppy mills which are a disgrace to humanity.

Whenever a friend of mine proposes buying an animal I always suggest adopting. It doesn't make sense to "buy" a pet rather than HELP one desperately in need. In fact I feel this way about making children versus adopting as well. In the future I hope to adopt. If only it was a little less costly.

This is off side, I am and owner of two Rotties...One found in a ditch 10 years ago in very rough shape and one purchased from a family breeder. I love and care well for both dogs, I am not a bad person for buying a dog from a breeder!
