Paying past-due accounts and loans
Student Account Assistance (SAA) is the University of Minnesota's service office for financial collections and loan repayment.
Past-due student accounts
SAA is responsible for collecting all past-due student account balances. SAA staff will help you take care of tuition and fees, housing costs, or other overdue financial obligations to the University. They can assist you in setting up payment plans, referrals to offices for disputes and appeals, and finding answers to your questions about billing.

SAA is responsible for billing and collecting all University and some federal loan payments from students who received loans from the following programs while attending the Twin Cities, Morris, and Crookston campuses:
- Federal Perkins Loan (formerly National Direct Student Loan or NDSL)
- Health Profession Student Loan (HPSL)
- Nursing Student Loan (NSL)
- University Trust Fund Loan (UTFL)
Exit interviews
Exit interviews are required for all loans received while attending the Twin Cities campus.
Ford Federal Direct Loans
SAA does NOT handle billing, collection, or exit interviews for Ford Federal Direct Loans (subsidized, unsubsidized, parent or graduate/professional PLUS loans).
