AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

UGO Entertainment is seeking an enthusiastic, resourceful and results-driven Audience Development Manager to attract new users and drive traffic to the most timely, relevant and best performing content published across UGO’s network of owned and operated web sites, mobile applications and off-site destinations.  This position requires extensive knowledge of online marketing/distribution strategies and tactics.  The successful candidate will demonstrate a proven track record of heroic traffic driving achievements. 

Responsibilities:

·         Attract new users to UGO’s owned & operated websites:

o    Coordinate and execute UGO’s social media content strategy, manage efforts to acquire traffic from crowd-sourced traffic sources and maintain and evolve UGO’s link exchange partnerships. 

o    Track and optimize existing syndication relationships, identify new opportunities, and collaborate with senior business development leadership to execute new content distribution partnerships.

o    Own daily and long term SEO strategy and implementation as it relates to editorial feature development.  Leverage keyword research, competitive analysis and SEO link building campaigns to establish new SEO footholds for the company.

·         Increase engagement, page view consumption and on/off-site video streams:

o    Aggressively grow fans and followers on the company’s social outposts

o    Program, monitor and optimize in-network promotional levers and company’s email newsletters.

o    Evaluate performance of 3rd party integrations and seek out new tools that increase page view consumption, time on site and user retention

o    Identify new opportunities to drive growth of the company’s viral video assets, and build subscribers to the company’s video-viewing destinations on YouTube, Metacafe, 5Min, Vimeo and other sites.

·         Provide business intelligence around audience development and content performance for editors and regular reporting and analysis for the executive team.

Qualifications:

·         5 to 7 years of online marketing experience for a publisher/online media brand is a MUST.

·         Demonstrated engagement and experience, including building personal networks of friends, fans and followers.

·         Solid understanding of all digital media community vehicles including blogs, wikis, widgets, RSS feeds, and apps.

·         Ability to perform in-depth quantitative analysis and communicate findings.

·         Strong understanding of Web analytics, preferably Omniture SiteCatalyst.

·         Subject matter expertise in Search Engine Optimization

 

GAMES EDITOR – 1UP.COM


The Games Editor will be a member of 1UP’s editorial team, and will be responsible for working with the rest of 1UP’s staff, developing and executing story ideas, and planning day-to-day content related to video games and the game industry.  This position is based in the San Francisco office.
 
Key Responsibilities

·         Writing creative, memorable, researched, and newsworthy previews, reviews, news stories, blog posts, and features

·         Generating both quick-turnaround stories and ambitious story ideas

·         Working with freelancers and other staff members to post content on a daily basis

·         Editing content on a daily basis

·         Arranging coverage with game PR/developers

Requirements

·         Deep knowledge of games and the game industry -- from the companies involved, to the people who make games, to how the industry works, to the industry’s history, to what games are coming on the horizon

·         Strong grasp of the English language and grammar rules

·         Solid organization and communication skills

·         A desire to produce better editorial coverage than you commonly see online

·         Willing to travel to cover events

 

 

DIGITAL MEDIA (ENTERTAINMENT/VIDEO GAME)

 

We are currently seeking an Account Executive to join the West Coast Sales team in San Francisco. This is a great opportunity to have a direct impact on the day-to-day business of a leading interactive media organization.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain & grow designated list of running accounts and prospect new business in the Pacific Northwest region (SF, Portland, Seattle)
  • Identify client & agency digital media buying decision makers and develop relationships at all levels through high volume of face to face calls.
  • Stay current on digital media & entertainment industry trends, possess deep understanding of customer's product(s) and specific marketing needs, and have the ability to leverage all information to maximize revenue.
  • Assemble strategic digital advertising programs across UGO Entertainment properties to meet client objectives.
  • Work closely with internal support teams to insure successful campaign execution.

 Required Experience:

Editorial Intern

We're currently seeking undergraduate interns to join our Editorial team on the frontlines of fantasy entertainment.  This is a great opportunity for a prospective writer/editor to learn the daily responsibilities and skills of a crack Editorial team for an Enterprise-class website. 

Interns will run a track of apprenticeship under our expert channel editors, learning the publish process from budget meeting inception, through search engine optimization and social media execution. The program has rolling dates, and we are willing to work with a qualified candidate's schedule.

IMPORTANT: This is an unpaid position. Only current students available for course credit need apply.

Job Responsibilities Include:
  • Assist editors in all facets of content production
  • Assemble photo galleries from studios, wire services and various outlets
  • Building news and feature articles with supplied assets, learning best practices and valuable search engine optimization training
  • Transcriptions, some Photoshop work and social media outreach

Skills:

Java Developer- Consultant

We're currently seeking a contract bases strong Perl developer who will be an integral part of a development team building our next generation web-publishing platform.  This platform utilizes Perl, HTML: Mason and MySQL.  Additionally, there is some legacy content that requires knowledge of PHP coding. Requirements:
  • A good understanding of thread synchronization and concurrency without relying on a framework.
  • An understanding of how asynchronous event models work. What an event is in relation to a listener and its broadcast mechanism.
  • Hibernate best practices. Triggers for proxy hydration and triggers for cache evictions.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Java programming language and standard Java APIs.
  • SQL knowledge such as performance considerations for indexing, joins, grouping, etc.
  • The ability to design subsystems, refactor existing code and work independently.
  • Best practices for object oriented programming (OOP) such as:    polymorphism, inheritance, delegation, encapsulation, and specialization.
  • Performance characteristics of Java standard data-structures.
  • Basic HTTP request/response server architecture knowledge.
  • Ability to lead a development team on smaller projects

Experience working   in distributed environments (server cluster), knowledge of IBatis, Javascript, AJAX, JQuery are bonuses.
