RIP Gamepro

Posted: 2011-12-05 11:33:15.017

Gamepro is gone. Members of the gaming press recently confirmed the announcement on the Gamepro.com website. 1UP alumni Justin Haywald and Kat Bailey are no longer employed there. I hope all of us can provide them some support in a difficult time.

The closing of Gamepro caps a year that has been really rough on the gaming press. Agencies including 1UP have merged, closed or consolidated, and many of the industry's former copywriters and editors are now freelancers. The crowded freelancer market in turn makes it hard for anybody writing about games to make a living doing so.

Friends and neighbors, what are your thoughts on the situation? Do you have any details to share on why Gamepro shut down? Do you know who else is out on the street? Do you have any insight on the contraction of the gameing press? Share news and opinions here!

Gamepro Shutting Down

Posted: 2011-12-05 10:29:43.437

As of noon today, GamePro announced on it's website that it is shutting down operation of the US gamepro.com site. Does anyone have any word on what this means for the site and the staff? Please post here if you do. I'm trying to reach a couple of people to find out more.
