The Mustangs will look to get their first home win of the season on Saturday. The Western women are 0-3 at Alumni Hall to start the year, but a solid 4-1 on the road. Last time out, the Mustangs were unable to extend their win streak to four in a row with a close
3-2 loss to Brock. At 4-4, Western currently sits in 8th place in the 13-team OUA conference, just behind Guelph (4-2) for 7th.
The Mustangs have a fairly well-balanced attack, highlighted by the trio of
Kelly Frittenburg,
Rebecca Oxland and
Stephanie Kreuter, who have each stepped up at different times this season to be the team's leader offensively. Brooke Lloyd has consistently been Guelph's leading scorer in 2011-12. Her 4.14 points per game and 3.64 kills per game both rank 3rd-best in the OUA.
It should be quite the battle at the net on Saturday, as the Gryphons rank 3rd in the CIS in hitting percentage (Errin Bickle leads the OUA at 38.9%), while the Mustangs are tops in the CIS with 108 total blocks.

Following up their hard-fought five-set win over Windsor, the Mustangs won in straight sets last time out,
beating Waterloo 3-0 on Nov. 25. The Western men remain the No. 7-ranked team in the country and continue to hold down first place in the OUA standings with a perfect 8-0 record.
Phil James continued his torrid pace in last weekend's win, and he sits in fourth-place in the OUA with 116 total points and second with 4.11 points per game. When it comes to hitting percentage, his numbers are even better. At an impressive 61.4%, James is far and away the CIS leader in that category.
The Gryphons come into Saturday's contest with the second-longest current winning streak in the OUA at five games. Guelph has been tough on the serve this season, as they rank fourth in the CIS with 45 service aces. Andrew Whitaker (3.96) and Winston Rosser (3.92) rank fourth and fifth, respectively, in the OUA in points per game this season.
