Legislatures and Elections

NCSL helps strengthen legislatures by providing services and research about the legislative institution, elections, civic education, ethics and more. Here is information you will find in the Legislatures & Election portal. Individual sites within the portal offer more detail on each program and a collection of documents.

Elections, Campaigns and Redistricting: NCSL tracks election results and party composition of legislatures. We provide 50-state research and analysis on how states run elections and govern campaigns. NCSL's redistricting resources are comprehensive and cover redistricting law, process and technology.

Legislative Organization and Procedures: NCSL conducts research and provides assistance on key issues regarding the management, organization, staffing, structure and rules and procedures of legislatures.

Legislator and Legislative Staff Data: NCSL collects extensive demographic data on the members and staff of the nation’s legislatures.

Center for Ethics in Government: The Center’s mission is to be a leader in promoting ethical behavior for state legislators, staff, lobbyists and advocates.

Leaders’ Center: The Center provides a network for legislative leaders and assists them in meeting the unique challenge of guiding and managing the institution.

Women’s Legislative Network: The Network offers special services, programs and information about women serving in state legislatures.

International Programs: The program is a liaison between state legislatures and international and regional organizations, foreign embassies, and parliamentarians from other countries. The program assists emerging democracies in strengthening their legislatures.

Trust for Representative Democracy: The Trust conducts programs to improve public understanding of state legislatures and Congress and to create a more informed and engaged citizenry.

Legislators Back to School Program: The nationally recognized program helps legislators teach important lessons to students about the legislative institution and representative democracy.
