Napoleonic era

Period associated with the time of Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821). In 1799, with the aid of his brother Lucian Bonaparte and Emmanuel Joseph Sieyès, he overthrew the Directory and installed himself as First Consul. From 1800 to 1802, Napoleon Bonaparte consolidated his position and brought the French Revolutionary Wars to a successful conclusion. He also instituted a series of educational, governmental and legal reforms, in particular the Code Napoleon. In 1804, he was proclaimed emperor of the French as Napoleon I. The Napoleonic era was also marked by a series of conflicts following the outbreak of the Napoleonic Wars in 1803.
