Iron Man 2 is hitting
DVD. If you're a Marvel freak that means Christmas is in September this
year and you'll spend hours freeze-framing your way through every second of
comic book mayhem. Director Jon Favreau has been kind enough to point out a
major Easter Egg during the safe house scene towards the end of the picture that involves Black Panther.
In the scene Robert Downey Jr. and Sam Jackson are
discussing The Avengers and there are several monitors that include footage
that links to The Incredible Hulk and Thor movies. Daily Blam quotes Favreau saying there's
even more afoot for the discriminating viewer who watches movies with binoculars:
"And if you think that anything on this monitor is not
something we at Marvel didn't talk about for hours - you are crazy! If you look
at those maps, each one of those locations corresponds to something in the
Marvel Universe. I'm not supposed to say that. And if you look on each one, and
I know what they mean, but I'm not gonna say it, but I'm gonna say this: Two of
them relate to The First Avenger: Captain America, one of them relates to Thor. The one in Africa relates to Black Panther."
The article goes on to discuss how this might relate to Black Panther and Captain America in films via the comics mythology. For those not in
the know, Black Panther was the first mainstream black superhero, and his
powers include superhuman senses and strength, high IQ, combat and gymnastic
skills, and the ability to organize his people against their white oppressors...
no wait, that last one was this guy.
Another special feature I hope will be on the Iron Man 2 DVD is "Acting Without Affectation" where they discuss
how focused Mickey Rourke was on creating a pure character without relying
on flashy tricks (except a thick Russian accent, dyed highlights, gold teeth,
tattoos, glasses, jewelry, an evil beard, toothpicks and a pet cockatoo).

A dot on screen means more than you thought it did.
