Vanessa Treasure bettered Olympian Liz Warden’s 200-metre individual medley meet record en route to a triple gold-medal performance as the Varsity Blues women’s swimming team handily defeated the McMaster Marauders on Saturday afternoon. The second-year physical education student topped Warden’s previous record (2:17.16) with a time of 2:16.98.  Treasure started the meet with a dominant victory in the 200 breaststroke, finishing a full 10 seconds ahead of the second-place swimmer in 2:31.22. The Mississauga, Ont., native also topped the field in the 50 breaststroke in another meet record time of 33.37 seconds. All three of the races were won in CIS standard time.

Rookie Erich Woolley (New Dundee, Ont.) of the men’s volleyball team was a standout leader and defensive player with a total of 45 digs as the Warriors swept their weekend games including an upset victory over the previously undefeated Western Mustangs.  In Friday’s 3-2 come from behind win over Windsor, Woolley emerged as the player of the match with 21 digs and great control on his passing.  On Saturday’s 3-2 win over the No. 6 Mustangs, Woolley dug the ball 24 times and was once again the most consistent player on the floor for Waterloo.

Luke VanMoerkerke of Tillsonburg, Ont., had an outstanding weekend for the UOIT Ridgebacks men's hockey team in back-to-back games against the No. 7 ranked Lakehead Thunderwolves. On Friday night, the commerce major had two goals and one assist, as he had his first multi-point game of the season. In game two, VanMoerkerke had a goal and an assist as the Ridgebacks upset the Thunderwolves 8-5, putting an end to Lakehead's nine game winning streak.

Sandy Edmison (Carleton Place, Ont.) tied the OUA record for most rebounds in a game, 25, in a 54-50 loss against York. She now shares the record with Laurentian standout Cassandra Carpenter, who set the record during the 2006-2007 season.
