OTTAWA, Ont. (CIS) -- The Western Mustangs men’s hockey team stayed put at No. 4 nationally, as the CIS released its weekly sport rankings on Tuesday. Moncton (9-3-0) jumped ahead two positions to move ahead of Western (9-1-2), but Saskatchewan (7-2-2) fell four spots from No. 3 to No. 7.

The Mustangs’ week included a 5-3 win over UOIT on Friday, but it also included their first loss in regulation of the 2011 season, a 5-4 defeat at the hands of the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday. Western was the last team in the country without a regulation loss.

Western’s men’s volleyball team also maintained its ranking (No. 7) from last week. The Mustangs continued their undefeated season with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Windsor on Friday. At 7-0, the Western men currently hold down first place in the OUA standings by a game and a half over McMaster and Guelph.

The Mustangs’ women’s swim team fell one spot to No. 5 in the national ranks. During their last competition (the weekend of Nov. 11-13), the women claimed first place at the Stratten Divisional Championships at Brock University.

Western’s men’s wrestlers made a jump in this week’s CIS ranks, moving from a seventh-place tie up to No. 4. Last weekend, the men placed seventh at the Toronto Wrestling Invitational. The women’s team, meanwhile, dropped one spot to No. 7 in this week’s ranks. Playing host at the Harry Geris Memorial Duals event on Saturday, the Mustangs finished fourth in the standings, ahead of the 2010 OUA champion (and current CIS No. 2) Brock Badgers. The Western women lost the bronze medal dual to current CIS No. 1 Alberta.
