Kathryn Hadley reports on the launch of the Woruldhord collection, yesterday, March 14th.

The Woruldhord collection, a set of free reusable educational resources to help with the teaching and study of Old English and the Anglo-Saxons, was launched yesterday, March 14th, marking the completion of a year-long project based at the University of Oxford.

The project was led by Dr Stuart Lee, a member of the English Faculty and the Director of Computing Systems and Services. He is a HEA National Teaching Fellow at Merton College, and was also Project Director on the First World War Poetry Digital Archive and the Great War Archive.

From July to October last year, material was donated by about 400 people, including museums and libraries, academics, members of the public and societies. The collection currently comprises approximately 4,500 objects (photographs, documents, presentations, databases, for example) covering art, archaeology, history, language, literature and music, from roughly the mid-fifth century until the eleventh century.

It is possible to search the database by entering a search term or to browse the collection by date, location, type of material, object, collection or format. Users can also register on the website and add their own material to the collection.
