The University of Western Ontario's chapter of DECA U is part of an international organization designed to attract motivated students working to become future leaders. The organization engages students in business-related areas such as marketing, entrepreneurship and management through participation in professional development conferences and case competitions against other educational institutions in Ontario.
DECA U consists of approximately 1000 members across 14 univerisity chapters, mostly based in Ontario. The organization operates under DECA Inc, which overseas DEX in the United States and DECA U in Canada. DECA Inc. aims to improve education and career opportunities for students interested in the business field and hope to continue the DECA high school experience that many have had before.
At Western's DECA U chapter, we hope to continue the success that the club has experienced in past competitions by facilitating gdivth and development in our members. Through the practice of presentation skills, participation in business simulations and networking opportunities with students in other chapters, we hope to inspire students to be the leaders of tomordiv.

Though there was significant interest in Japanese culture, language, food, peoople, etc. there was (and still is to this day) a rather small Japanese student population at the University of Western Ontario (UWO). The club started out in its inaugural year with approximately 25 members, mostly from the Japanese community at UWO. Presently there are over 100 members on an annual basis, however the goals of the club still remain the same. JSA continues to strive to meet the demand of the larrge student body who wish to have an opportunity to learn more about Japanese culture, specifically popular culture. Furthermore, there lacks an opportunity to those studying Japanese to utilize the language outside of the classroom, but JSA presents these eager members with the chance to learn and improve their language skills in a natural, comfortable environment. A key factor of JSA is that it is an extremely multicultural club. Due to its diversity in member background, there are many different desires and expectations out of the members. JSA gives its fullest effort to present a variety of events which cover different aspeects of Japanese culture. Last, but not least, we present an opportunity to members to make friends. Whether freshmen students or post-grad stuednts, we place great emphasis on running events and meetings where there is much interaction between members, whether they know eachother or not. It is in our interest to allow people to make long lasting friends while enjoying Japanese-style events run by students for students.

The Mirror is a journal which annually publishes a selection of undergraduate history essays. Our editorial board of 10-12 members reads dozens of submissions and selects the best 8-10. An intensive editing process follows, with each of the Assistant Editors editing one essay, then passing along to the two Associate Editors who each edit all 10 papers. The Editor-in-Chief finally edits all the papers, and the Design and Layout Editor formats the journal. The Editor-in-Chief submits the publication to a printer, who creates the final product. The final product is then offered up for sale to the Western community.

Save the Children activity group at U.W.O is committed to increasing awareness and advocacy about Save the Children Canada's mission; which is to fulfill the objectives of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. The United Nations Declaration of the Rights of the Child is summarized in five themes: participation, protection, survival, development and promotion of all children.
Statistics show that every day more than 35,000 children die around the world. Sadly, many of these deaths could be prevented with proper health care, medical immunization, better nutrition, improved sanitation practices or something as simple as clean, safe, water.
Millions of our young are condemned to live in conditions of extreme poverty, suffering from malnutrition, ill health, illiteracy, violence and a total exclusion from any benefits of economic gdivth. They suffer from being denied the rights that most Canadians take for granted. Yet these are not just conditions facing children in Third World countries - it is estimated that in our own country, 1 in 5 children also live in poverty and neglect.
Here and everywhere, children are totally dependent on others for their basic needs - water, food, health care, shelter, education, and a sense of hope. Save the Children - Canada is commited to those children who can't help themselves, and to their families and communities who need a helping hand.

Established in 2005, SEAA has quickly become one of the best social clubs at UWO. Despite its name, SEAA and its events are in fact open to anybody, regardless of race. This had made SEAA one of the more diverse clubs at UWO. Unlike many of its Asian social club counterparts, who have become disgustingly large in population and extremely impersonal, SEAA distinguishes itself by remaining small and accomodating to all of its valuable members. Remaining in touch with its members is what has allowed SEAA to become so successful in such a short period of time.
Our signature event of the year is known as the annual "Dance-off" - a dance competition that allows talented youngsters of all ages to compete in their respective field of dance, ranging from lyrical to break dancing. This event has been held for the past two consecutive years and has attracted satisfactory feedback and attention. Most importantly, the Dance-off is a charity event. Each year we choose a charity organization to donate our proceeds from all operations involved in the competition. We have supported the MS Society in 2007, and the INFUSION fashion show, which supports cancer survivors, in 2008.
SEAA looks forward to expanding the population and connections among our fellow members. We also aim to develop better relationships with other cultural clubs, so as to allow members to interact with students from other social organizations on campus as well as other student associations from other universities.

Description:
STAND is a student-led anti-genocide advocacy group which works to mobilize Canadians to act against genocide. STAND was founded in 2005 at the University of Western Ontario by a group of concerned students wanting to make real change concerning the genocide in Darfur, Sudan, which began in 2003. It has expanded to a national organization with chapters at over fifty high schools and universities. STAND Western works within the University and greater London community to raise awareness about the situation in Darfur, and the topic of genocide. STAND’s primary purpose is to create the political will in Canadian citizens and politicians to make acting immediately and effectively against threats of genocide a cornerstone of Canadian foreign policy. As an organization we work to provide UWO students and London residents with the tools and resources they need to make a difference in the fight against genocide as an individual, such as calling 1-800-GENOCIDE, writing letters to politicians, and meeting with local MP´S. We run events throughout the year to educate and advocate, and coordinate an ongoing awareness campaign. In addition, STAND Western has expanded its mandate to focus on community initiatives; we are involved in efforts to help newcomer and refugee communities with settlement and transition issues. In partnership with the African Students Association at Western, we will be running an after-school tutoring program at three London Public Library locations. STAND strives to motivate Canadians to advocate and fight against genocide, and demands that the Canadian government commit to immediate and serious response to such issues.
