Today is author Jules Verne's birthday. Yes, before there was Steven Spielberg, Michael Bay and James Cameron, there was just a humble French author whose imagination inspired a generation -- and has been since referred to as "The Father of Science Fiction." Verne penned such classics as A Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864), Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1870), and Around the World in Eighty Days (1873). He also went back in time using a steampunk contraption in order to track down Jack the Ripper. Oh, that was H.G. Wells, my bad.

In honor of Verne's birthday, Google has "Nautilized" their logo:

Yes, I totally watched the Superbowl for the commercials. Call it the ultimate triumph of Capitalism, call it ads that have bigger budgets than a lot of movies. I was just too darn curious! And one of the weirdest was that for Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY, featuring human-like thumbs being grafted onto that cute green Android:
