The Greatest She-Hulk Stories Ever Told! – Voting

Here’s the latest of the daily voting threads for The Greatest ____ Stories Ever Told!

Our next character up for voting is She-Hulk.

Given a blood transfusion from her cousin Bruce Banner, Jennifer Walters soon found herself transforming into the Savage She-Hulk! Over time she got the “savage” part fixed and became a celebrated superhero, the first hero to be a member of the Avengers and the Fantastic Four at the same time! She is also a successful lawyer and is quite adept with breaking the fourth wall. She has had a number of ongoing series, on top of being a major part of the Avengers and the Fantastic Four titles.

You have until 11:59 PM Pacific time, November 8th to vote for your top ten favorite comic book stories starring Deathstroke! Your choices will be revealed on November 9th. I will leave what “starring” entails up to you.

You vote by sending your top ten choices to bcronin@comicbookresources.com (make the subject heading clear that it is about The Greatest She-Hulk Stories Ever Told Voting) by that time (you send your votes by e-mail, not in the comments to this piece).

Be sure to first click here to read about the rules and guidelines for the voting (so you don’t vote for stuff that is ineligible, like you can’t vote for “Dan Slott’s She-Hulk run,” you have to pick a specific story or story arc).

I’d prefer you not share your votes in the comments section – please let’s keep it a surprise until the results go up. You can share your votes then if you’d like!

Have fun voting and be sure to check back November 9th to see the results!

Happy Palindrome Day!

In honor of today’s palindrome date (which will only be true for a little while longer on the East Coast), I thought I’d spotlight a bit from Arkham Asylum: Living Hell #4 and 6, by Dan Slott, Ryan Sook and Wade Von Grawbadger.

Enjoy!

Name That Gambit Artist!

All November-long, I will be sharing four panels featuring a comic book character. They will each be drawn by four separate pencilers. I will be featuring only pieces of art where the penciler did full pencils (as otherwise it would be way too difficult). Your challenge is to, simply put, name that artist!

E-mail me your guesses to bcronin@comicbookresources.com. Do NOT make guesses in the comments section! After a week, I’ll post the correct answers on the archive page (I’ll put up the link to the archive page here once I have a few entries) along with whoever guessed them correctly. You don’t have to name the issues the panels came from, but if you’d like to, knock yourself out.

Read on for the four Gambit panels…

Committed: What British Comic Writers Learned from Thatcher

If a cigar can be just a cigar, and not some obvious phallic symbol to be endlessly sucked and played with, then can a superhero ever be just a superhero, or is it always representative of a deeper, more complex need within us?

Our next creator up for voting is Steve Gerber.

Steve Gerber had distinguished runs on a number of Marvel titles, including the Defenders and Daredevil. While writing Man-Thing he introduced his most famous creation, Howard the Duck. Meta-Messages – Grant Morrison Meets Animal Man

All October long I explored the context behind (using reader danjack’s term) “meta-messages.” A meta-message is where a comic book creator comments on/references the work of another comic book/comic book creator (or sometimes even themselves) in their comic. Each time around, I’ll give you the context behind one such “meta-message.” Here is an archive of the past installments!

What better way to cap off the month than with one of the most famous instances of metafiction in comic book history, Animal Man #26, Grant Morrison’s final issue of his remarkable run, as he comes face to face with Animal Man.

The Greatest Deathstroke Stories Ever Told! – Voting

Here’s the latest of the daily voting threads for The Greatest ____ Stories Ever Told!

Our next character up for voting is Deathstroke the Terminator.

I figure one of the scariest bad guys out there, Deathstroke the Terminator, is a good figure for Halloween voting! If not THE greatest villain created during the 1980s, Deathstroke the Terminator is surely high on the list. Whether it is in his many battles with the Teen Titans or his forays against much bigger game, Deathstroke is popular enough to have had TWO ongoing series, including a current ongoing as part of DC’s New 52.

You have until 11:59 PM Pacific time, November 6th to vote for your top ten favorite comic book stories starring Deathstroke! Your choices will be revealed on November 7th. I will leave what “starring” entails up to you.

You vote by sending your top ten choices to bcronin@comicbookresources.com (make the subject heading clear that it is about The Greatest Deathstroke Stories Ever Told Voting) by that time (you send your votes by e-mail, not in the comments to this piece).

Be sure to first click here to read about the rules and guidelines for the voting (so you don’t vote for stuff that is ineligible, like you can’t vote for “Wolfman’s Deathstroke the Terminator run,” you have to pick a specific story or story arc). If you’re confused about arcs, just go by how they are collected in trade paperbacks (which I know is not much help for much of Terminator’s published history, but I think he has mostly appeared in stories that you can split into specific story arcs).

I’d prefer you not share your votes in the comments section – please let’s keep it a surprise until the results go up. You can share your votes then if you’d like!

Have fun voting and be sure to check back November 7th to see the results!

We finish with a collaboration between two masters of horror, Bruce Jones and Bernie Wrightson, on “Jenifer” from Creepy #63. This spooky story will hopefully freak you out…
