Services Offered
The primary mission of the ALA Library is to help the staff of the American Library Association serve ALA members, and thereafter, the needs of the members of the ALA, other libraries, and members of the public seeking information on librarianship. The ALA Library
- Collects materials on the history of and issues within libraries and librarianship
- Serves as the repository for publications from ALA and its units
- Responds to reference and information requests supported by its collection scope
- Works closely with the ALA Archives
Service Limitations
Correspondents are encouraged to consult the ALA Library Fact Sheets or Library Reference, Research, and Resources: Tools for the Librarian from the ALA Library. For those seeking further assistance from the ALA Library, the staff will respond to reference and information needs to the extent possible and consulting with other units of the Association as appropriate. Please contact your local library for assistance with the following, as we are unable to accommodate these requests:
- Extensive background research for graduate projects
- Compilation of extensive bibliographies
- Requests for information connected with contestsÃ
- Completion of school or work assignments
