The Maple Leafs forward, celebrating a teammate's overtime goal, was suspended for two regular-season games for an illegal hit to the head of Justin Abdelkader, left, with a few seconds left in regulation. MacArthur was No. 2 on the Leafs in points last season. Lost pay: $35,135.14
The Detroit Red Wings defenseman got the rest of preseason and five NHL games for a hit to the head of Chicago's Ben Smith. Shanahan noted that although Ben Smith made a move before the hit, his head stayed in the same position and the onus was on Brendan Smith to deliver a full-body check. "Instead Brendan Smith misses and recklessly targets his opponent's head," Shanahan said. Smith, sent to the minors, will serve the suspension if called up. Lost pay: $23,648.65.
