David Stern's NBA -- the only NBA many of us have ever known -- is teetering momentarily, locked in a labor-management dispute marked by greed, power, lust and, I'm sure, the occasional Caucasian lie. As a rule, Stern gets his way; when he doesn't, somebody usually goes away. (10/24/2011)
The United States softball team won its seventh consecutive gold medal at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, by beating Canada, 11-1, Sunday in four innings. The Americans dominated the tournament, finishing 9-0 to win their eighth gold medal in the sport at the regional competition. (10/24/2011)
A groundbreaking ceremony will be held 1 p.m. Sunday for a $1.6 million project that will eliminate two dangerous gaps in the Montour Trail. The work by Beech Construction of Carnegie involves the construction of two bridges to carry the trail over Morganza Road and Georgetown Road in Cecil Township, Washington County. Howard Bach already has a plan for adding an Olympic gold medal to his Pan American Games success in badminton: Choose the right partner. In Guadalajara, Bach teamed with Tony Gunawan, who received his U.S. passport only a month ago, to win the badminton doubles title Wednesday. (10/20/2011)
