Redskins are hurting, lose 2 more starters

Running back Tim Hightower is out for the season with a torn ACL in his left knee, and receiver Santana Moss will miss five to seven weeks with a broken bone in his left hand.

The Redskins have now lost five offensive starters to significant injuries in the past two games.

Hightower's knee buckled during a third-quarter run in Sunday's 33-20 loss to Carolina. Moss was hurt in the first half of the game and had surgery Monday.

Washington lost tight end Chris Cooley , left tackle Trent Williams and left guard Kory Lichtensteiger in the previous week's loss to Philadelphia.

Lions

Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford is "day to day" after injuring his right ankle injury in the final minutes of a loss Sunday to the Falcons. Coach Jim Schwartz said that his quarterback wore a protective boot after the game but wouldn't go into details about X-ray or MRI results

Jets

Plaxico Burress spoke at a banquet for the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence. Burress said that he vowed when he went to prison that he would "let what happened to me serve a higher purpose." The organization initially pressed for him to go to prison on a weapon possession charge after he accidentally shot himself, but was thrilled to welcome him as an ally when he contacted the center. "If I can save one life, keep one kid from having a firearm, then I think the higher purpose was served," Burress said.
