Checkpoint savvy

Terminal D: Checkpoint No. 22 (by Grand Hyatt DFW) busy most days from 2 p.m. — 6:30 p.m.

Workaround: Gates can be accessed from any terminal checkpoint. In a pinch, you can enter any terminal and take the bi-directional Skytrain to your terminal.

Parking

Parking information: Audio report on parking availability, 972-973-PARK. 24-hour automated information.

Most convenient: Valet parking available at all terminals, $22/day. Terminal parking, $17/day.

Least expensive: Remote parking, $8 day. North and South lots with shuttle to terminals. See more options.

Cellphone lot: None; $2 minimum fee to enter toll gate and drive through airport to make a pick-up ($1 with automated Toll Tag).

Transportation to/from city

Most convenient: Taxi, $40 flat rate (1st person) to Dallas Central Business District. Travel time: Up to 30 minutes. $43 flat rate (first person) to Fort Worth Central Business District. Travel time: About 30 minutes, depending on traffic.

Least expensive: Trinity Railway Express (TRE) or DART bus. Both require transfers. Travel time: 45 minutes — two hours to Dallas or Fort Worth downtown areas. Fares: $1.75 — $2.50. See public transportation information.

Wi-Fi and charging stations

T-Mobile provides paid Wi-Fi service. Free wired Internet (and power) available at 17 gate areas. Paid wired Internet available at two dozen work stations throughout terminal.

Free power outlets (and wired Internet) available at 17 gate areas and 15 work stations, including Samsung Mobile Travel centers. Samsung Power Poles offer free power outlets in 60 locations throughout the airport. Six PowerPort stations provide cellphone charging and laptop rentals. Sixteen electric massage chairs include power outlets (and music). See list of options.

Go local

Good choice for local gifts: Find Western gifts at Lone Star Emporium (B23), Texas Marketplace (5 locations), Mercado Gifts (A17).

Good choice for local food: Pappasito's Cantina (A28); Blue Mesa Taco & Tequila Bar (D31) and Cantina Laredo (D27, upper level). Cousin's Bar-B-Q (B27, D28). See all dining options.

Tips and tidbits

Terminal D and the Skylink stations feature artwork by more than 30 artists. A special program allows guests of the Grand Hyatt DFW (inside Terminal D) to access airport shops and restaurants. Free Samsung Theaters on International Terminal D mezzanines have multiple large screen TVs playing movies, TV shows, etc. Each theater has a dozen leather chairs with headphone jacks and monitor controls.

Nearby layover option

The 36-hole Bear Creek Golf Course is on DFW property. The American Airlines C.R. Smith Museum is three miles south of the airport. Founder's Plaza is a six-acre park/observation area on the northwest side of airport.
